Happy Trick Or Treat!
Here at StoneGable, we don't have many trick-or-treater. So sad!
Because we live in the middle of corn fields and have no close neighbors, we get very few costumed kids excited for candy!
I miss that...
When we lived in our first two homes we had hoards of trick-or-treaters. Bobby loved putting on his dinosaur costume to hand out candy to the kids.
One year, he scared our little next door neighbor so badly when he opened the door, she cried and went straight home and didn't finish trick-or-treating! And the dinosaur costume wasn't even scary!
I made my children's costumes every year. Christopher would plan for months and months... very serious about what he would be. It was usually a pirate, Robin Hood, a pirate, a cute vampire, Zoro, a pirate, Rocky, a pirate... to this day Christopher still has pirate aspirations!
Jacqueline loved to be a cat or a "bobby socks girl". We had a few years in a row of cat costumes. She also was a bride, cute witch, lamb, etc. Almost every year when I asked her what she wanted to be she would say, "a cat"!
When our son was small he would get so excited to trick-or treat that he would wear himself out and fall asleep in the wagon I pulled the children around the neighborhood in. His sister, to her extreme embarrassment, had to ask for 2 treats... one for her and one for her sleeping brother!
And for many years, Christopher, would not go near houses that played scary music. So again, our little cat would have to get treats for her brother too!
Just this morning, my Jacqueline called and asked if I could find her Tinkerbell costume. I made it for her when she was a sophomore in high school... she wants to wear it to a party. I think her husband is either going to be Peter Pan or Captain Hook. So later tonight I'll be digging around the cedar closet!
I know this is long and very off topic, but trick-or-treat brings up so many sweet and wonderful memories!
Because we get so few trick-or-treaters, you know what that means.... more candy for me!!!!
I hope you get bags and bags of treats and lots of fun memories!
BE SAFE OUT THERE!

These sound like wonderful recipes! We are taking our 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son trick-or-treating for the first time - can't wait to see them in their costumes asking for candy. So cute! Thanks for sharing such great posts - I enjoy your blog so much!
ReplyDeletewhen I try to open the chicken noodle soup recipe I get lampsplus facebook page?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'll fix that! Happy Day!
DeleteHoliday memories are the best. I have a vivid memory of one of my sons dressed up as Dracula when he was eight. I had volunteered to help with the costume parade at school and I remember him standing so tall and proud. It just sticks in my mind.
ReplyDeleteI love checking out your 'menu of the week'--so many yummy things. I have a menu board that I use, but I seem to have lots of leftovers from the 3 of us, and I even plan in 'leftover days'. Surely you have leftovers--what do you do with yours?

ReplyDeleteOh I adore your Halloween stories. How adorable.
ReplyDeleteYour menu planned is getting me so hungry!
Thanks for all you do to make us smile and inspire us. Sorry I have been absent.
Huge hugs.
Oh Yvonne, if I had known Reese Peanut Butter Cups were your favorite, I would have saved several for you. That was the treat I gave last Saturday at my daughter's house. She and her husband took the three little ones around their neighborhood.
ReplyDeletePeanut butter cups are Joe's fave too!!! I loved hearing about Jackie and Chris's trick or treating. We don't get any here either:( I loved giving out treats. I am not buying candy, no sir. I have been snackig all darn day:) Hope to see you soon. XO
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way as you about Halloween memories. 30 years later I still have those first few toddler costumes I cobbled together. How come my oldest didn't call and ask if his kids could wear them? Hmmm....
ReplyDeleteI bet it won't be long before you'll be making Halloween costumes for some sweet grandchildren!
ReplyDeleteLike the Am. Girl doll costumes I posted today.
I think I'll make your chicken soup this week...it is perfect weather for it.
Thanks for sharing so many good recipes.
Yvonne, I have made your grilled pierogi and kielbasa many times. I have to tell you that my husband and I just love it! Thanks for sharing! I've also made you chicken soup many times.
ReplyDeleteroast with mushroom soup? Where do you add the soup?
ReplyDeleteLove your blog Yvonne. I have a question about one of your recipes. In the recipe for Yankee Pot Roast, when do you add the cream of mushroom soup? With the beef broth?
ReplyDeleteThat's right Penny! You will love this dish!
