Let's try this again. Something happened to Monday's post and it got all garbled up. I think it's fixed now....
THANK YOU StoneGable Readers!
Almost 1,000 people took the StoneGable Reader's Survey and gave me some great feedback!
I found out so much from all of you! You really spoke your mind! Some good... some not so good, but constructive! And all the info will help me build a better blog.
Here's what I found out and some new plans for the New Year...
All information based on the survey
WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE STATS...
WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE STATS...
*66% of you read StoneGable on a daily basis. 27% read it a few times a week.
*Just a little over half of you subscribe to StoneGable and get an almost daily e-mail.
I'd like to see more of my readers subscribe to my e-mails. I create the newsletters myself and highlight the current daily post and also archived posts that I think you would like and that are seasonally relevant.
To subscribe, fill out the KEEP IN TOUCH box located in the upper part of my right sidebar.
*Only a very small portion of readers are Facebook friends and even fewer follow me on twitter.
If you have Facebook and twitter, please follow! I send out blog updates, interesting posts from other bloggers, great Pinterest pics I find, personal notes and questions to get your feedback!
You can find all my social media icons on my sidebar. Just click them to join in!
*Did you know that I am very active on Pinterest? 1/3 of my readers are StoneGable Pinterest followers.
You can follow me on Pinterest by clicking HERE or clicking on the Pinterest icon on my sidebar.
And please keep pinning!
*Could you have guessed that the most popular StoneGable posts were about DECORATING!
Followed up by Seasonal House Tours, DIY"S, and Helpful Tips.
Good to know! I'll keep them coming!!!!
*99% of readers liked StoneGable's layout and content... and feel inspired and entertained when reading StoneGable.
It's my goal that each post does at least one of 4 things... teaches, inspires, entertain and gives you a takeaway!
And of course, I want to show you a little love everyday!
*Over half of my readers don't comment. No surprise here. Many told me they don't know how!
HERE'S HOW!
It's soooo easy!
On the comment form at the bottom of the post page find "comment as". There is a little box next to that with a tiny arrow pointing down. Click on the arrow and a drop down box will appear. Click on "Anonymous" and leave your message. Remember to at least leave your first name at the end of the comment. When you are done, click publish.
Give it a try!
I'd love to hear from you!
*While we are on the subject of commenting... many readers wished I'd comment more on their comment to let them know I really read them. Believe me I not only read all comments, but cherish them! Most blogger do!!! I'll try to comment more. Thanks!
NOW, HERE ARE SOME NEW THINGS TO LOOK FOR AT STONEGABLE IN 2014... ALL BECAUSE YOU ASKED!
MORE DECORATING...
Many of you asked to see more decorating posts. We are continuing to transform StoneGable room by room. I will make an effort to share all my decorating projects, big and small!
MORE TIPS....
I received a huge response from all of my "THE BEST TIP YOU WILL EVER GET" posts.
I'll try to do several more this year.
MORE TABLESCAPES...
I got an overwhelming number of readers asking for more tablescapes. Last year I had so many big house projects going on I sorta forgot to post tablescapes. I love setting tables, so you will see more of them in 2014.
MORE HOME DECOR DIY'S...
Lots of readers want to see more decorating diy's. And I love love love to do them. I have a big lineup of home projects and diy's I want to do in 2014!
MORE DETAILED DIY INSTRUCTIONS...
You've got it. I'll keep my camera in hand and use it to show each step of a diy!
MORE OF THE SAME...
I'll still be offering Recipes, Sunday Scriptures, Gardening, a few Personal Stories, etc. Because there is still quite a bit of interest in those topics.
Being what I call a "lifestyle" blog I like to blog about a variety of things that make up my life at StoneGable. So I'll keep posting about "all things home" with an emphasis on the topics most asked for.
MORE BLOG VISITING...
Over the last year I have not been visiting blogs like I used to. Not that I don't want to but I am spending more time working on posts and photography and editing. In a normal day I try to visit at least 5 blogs. I'm going to do my best to visit at least 5 bloggers that comment from each post and 5 others too. It's all a matter of hours in the day.
A NEW SERIES...
I'll be starting a new series in a few weeks called WHAT BLOGGERS DO BEST (or something like that). I'll be inviting a blogger once a week to share what she does best and show us. Like decorating, diy's, photography, vignettes, tablescapes, etc. I think it will be very interesting.
EASY ACCESS TO ARCHIVES...
Many of you asked to have a list of my archives so you could look up past post easily. Great idea! I'm working on that and it should be ready in March.
ANSWERING QUESTIONS MORE DILIGENTLY...
Some of you have pointed out that I don't always answer questions asked in the comment section. So sorry! I really thought I did. I'll double my efforts and make sure I answer all questions.
WHAT YOU WILL HAVE TO LOVE ME THROUGH IN 2014...
I got several request to do away with ads on my blog.
StoneGable was an ad free blog for 3 years.
It's just not possible for me to spend the amount of money I do on blogging and take it out of our family budget! Offsetting the cost of blogging and my time became necessary. To be honest, blogging is expensive and I treat my blog like a full time job (or more). Blogging is such a passion of mine and I love love love doing it! To continue and grow the quality, content and scope of StoneGable I need to have ads. I hope you will understand!
Some readers commented on my spelling and punctuation mistakes. I admit it... I am the world's worst speller and an even worse proofreader. Believe it or not, I've actually gotten better since blogging. I love to write and am slightly dyslexic... how's that for a combo!
I will never win a spelling bee (I was the mortified girl out in the first round in grade school) and I don't have the time to consult a grammar book... so I'll do my best and hope you excuse the rest!
As far a punctuation (..., !!!!!! and lots of ,) I write like I speak. I am very passionate about things and so I use punctuation the way I speak!!!!!!!!
HERE'S SOME CHANGES THAT I THINK WILL BE GOOD FOR THE FUTURE...
I'll be making some changes that were not discussed in the survey but I think you might like to know.
I'll be moving from Blogger to Wordpress in March. MOVING? Not actually moving... just virtually moving.
I'll be using a different system for writing and delivering my blog.
It will offer me and my readers a much more creative blog layout and so much more. I'll still be StoneGable and you can still find me at stonegableblog.com, but there will be a learning curve to learn the new system. I expect there might be a few "growing pains".
I'm also redesigning my blog in March. Not a drastic change... just keeping it fresh. A little like redecorating and updating. I hope to have an even more reader friendly blog!
A BIG THANK YOU AND HUG FROM ME...
Thanks so much for your kind, sweet words of encouragement! They motivate me and help so much!
And thank you for your input. Great advice and constructive criticism. I learned a lot from you and took everything into consideration!
I really love and cherish my readers!
As I always say... and believe...

Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteAmazing survey results, dear friend!!!
I am thrilled at all the new aspects of your blog desing and features!
I want to address your comments concerning punctuation, spelling writing, etc.
My blog is one of creative and free will writing.
Like you, I am passionate about what I write.
I am journaling, writing and expressing myself creatively on my blog.
YES!!! I know all the rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling when writing...
but choose not to follow them exactly on my blog.
Arthritis in my hands, many times, shows as a spellling error. . .when actually it is not!
So~o~o. . .just keep on keeping on, dear friend!!!
Looking forward to seeing those tablescapes, coffee bars, buffets
and all the glam that you creativity design for your home decor and everyday life!!!
A faithful follower, I will continue to be!!!
Fondly,
Pat
What a sweet reply, Pat! Thanks!
DeleteYvonne, I enjoyed reading the results! Your blog is so important in my life! I love everything you write about! You are so creative and I love to see how it works out in your blog. You encourage me in so many different ways! I know others have said this, but I would love to have all of this wrapped up in book form! I know, big project and probably not feasible. But to have a beautiful book to look at and read; with your gorgeous and inspiring pictures; and your upbeat and motivating way of "talking" to us--well, it would be something I would read and treasure forever!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!

Doreen has spoken of you. I'd love to have lunch with you and Doreen! Let's make it work. E-mail me!
DeleteNot the best grammar person myself, so I never notice. Love your inspirational blog. I look forward to your Sunday Scriptures and I hope your recovery is going well. Keep up the good work. Kathleen in Az
ReplyDeleteSuch a gracious response, Yvonne! You are just a class act all the way around :) I adore your blog and come here every day, like so many others You always put a smile on my face, first thing! And always so much inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing your results, I'm going to use them to help improve my own blog in the coming year. You're the best, sweet lady!! xoxoxoxo Andrea
ReplyDeleteYvonne, I'm a follower that starts every morning with you and visits at least a couple times during the day hoping you have posted something else. I loved seeing the survey results and I did participate. Evidently your recipes were not at the top of the list but I LOVE all of them. They are easy, straight forward and always gorgeous. Please don't scale back doing new ones. I'm not sure why but your photography is not mentioned much, it is always stunning! The photos on this blog are professional quality and really enhance each post. I see that you are doing some changes in March. Please don't change too much, I love it like it is. Your decorating posts are always beautiful, but I love the DIY's and the food ones the best, maybe because I can only dream of living in a Stonegable home. I love my home and have some neat pieces but yours is the "bomb". Thanks for the highlights that you bring to my day when I visit this gorgeous blog. What misspelling and I don't see no grammer problems?! :) :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above poster. For the past 10 years, my husband and I have not had a lot of home pride. I used to work 65 - 70 hours a week and did not have time for home projects. However, that changed when I started reading your blog and became a stay-at-home person. Thanks to your lovely blog that is full of inspiration from decorating, cooking, and DIY projects, we have started several projects and are working on making our house a "home". Your blog has brought me and my husband much closer together. We now look forward to spending Saturdays out looking in thrift shoppes and antique stores and discussing new projects to tackle. I look so forward to your posts.
DeleteAlso, I wanted to say that some readers may not sign up via e-mail because they might have it on a Bloglovin feed like I do.
Since I now have time for blogs and read many different ones, I always compare them to StoneGable. I am very visual and love your layout and content. Not enough is ever said about your mad photography skills! When I find a new blog, I immediately compare it to yours. Nothing as met your high standards. I truly appreciate all of the time that you put into your blogs.
As for the ads and grammar errors comments - I do not care if you have ads and understand that you need to be paid for your efforts. I am sure that I have grammar errors in this post as well.
Thank you for being so devoted to your readers and providing such inspiration on a weekly basis!
Joann
Thank you for telling me how to post a comment:) love your Sunday scripture! I to am not good with grammar and punctuation lol. I never look for that kind of thing. I'm to busy looking at the pretty post! Thank you for your blog. Such a blessing! Happy 2014. May God bring perfect healing on your legs.

I love your blog and can't imagine anyone saying anything negative about it. Don't change a thing.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I get an abbreviated version of my favorite magazine each day when I open your blog. Keep up the good work!
Yvonne, I have created a folder so that on the days I don't have the time to read your blog email, I am able to go back on days I have time to read and absorb all your wonderful ideas, tips and advice! Keep up the good work, I feel I know you already and look forward to your scripture sharing, along with all the creative ideas. I've tried several of your DIY projects and thoroughly enjoyed them! Have a blessed day! Prayers being sent up for your speedy recovery! Thank you for sharing with all of us!
ReplyDeleteA reader from the south who enjoys your blog. My first attempt at responding to anything on a computer. joy
ReplyDeleteYEA! You did it! Good for you, Joy!
DeleteLuv your blog just the way it is!!! I too write like I speak... very expressive and emotional. I see nothing wrong with that :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more StoneGable in 2014.
Hugs, Gee
Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteThis is actually the first time I have submitted a message to StoneGable blog. I felt it only the right thing to do because I so enjoy your blog! It is truly AMAZING! It is quite obvious that you spend a lot of time, energy and hard work constructing your blog to be one of the BEST!!! And it certainly is.
Looking forward to all your post this year.
BTW, I hope that you are up and about and that your kneecap surgery was a success.
Wishing and your family a healthy and happy 2014.
Carol

For some reason I was deleted from your email list and missed the survey. But I wanted to say that your blog was the first one I joined and still my favorite. You had me hooked with the white pumpkin fall mantle. Everything you post is fabulous and I especially love the scripture portion. Keep up the good work. There is "nothing" I think you should change. :)

Always the first blog I read every day. I'm surprised to know that there were critical comments from others taking your survey. I think your blog is wonderful in every way, and I look forward to your continued success.
ReplyDeletePeggy
Thanks Peggy, All the negative comments were NOT nasty. They were truthful and good constructive criticism.
DeleteThanks for detailing how to comment. I love your blog. I find it Inspirational! Thanks for having it organized and searchable to use and learn from. Your topics, photography and formats make it a pleasure to read!
ReplyDeleteYvonne,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the redo on this post. It was difficult to read on Monday and I''m so happy to really get to read it completely today...As you know I love your blog. Congrats on your success in the blogging kingdom,. Bless you and keep us inspired in 2014
Fondly
Betty @ My Cozy Corner
I just started reading blogs, yours was the first one, from there I have a few others I hit every once in awhile but yours is the first one! I have thought about starting a blog but after you said it is like a full-time job and more, and expensive, I am going to give it another year and see what I feel like in 2015. I will continue to be
ReplyDeleteone of your faithful followers with absolutely NOTHING to complain about, I just ENJOY it all!!!! I wish you a very successful and happy, healthy NEW YEAR. You're the BEST, I insist! :)
I was happy to see that you reposted about the survey as the one from earlier this week was hard to read...I thought it was maybe my computer! I second one of the earlier comments about not changing too much about your blog...I think it's perfect just like it is now! Although I'm sure the new one will be just as wonderful. Looking forward to all Stonegable inspires me with in 2014!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the survey results. You are the first one that I've seen do that. I have enjoyed your blog for quite awhile and I appreciate all of the work that you put into it - thank you! I hope that you will not change things too much, as your blog has a very special appeal the way that it is. I also hope that you will continue to post recipes, too. Again, thanks for all you do~
ReplyDeleteI was new to reading home blogs this past year. Stone Gable was one of my first discoveries and remains at the top of my bookmarks. I can't tell you how much inspiration I've gleaned from your blog - everything from tablescapes to recipes. You've given me the courage to tackle projects (like painting furniture) that I would have avoided in the past. And don't get me started on sweater pillows. Making those has become my new little addiction thanks to you. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into producing such a wonderful site!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Christine in Los Angeles

DeleteAdvertisements don't bother me at all. If you don't blog, you don't know how much work it is, how much time it takes and how much money you can spend buying things to keep posting about. I can only imagine how pricey it must be when you have to post every day. Your content is always superb and with great quality. I often wonder what you do with all the things and food you make. There is only so much room in one home. I have actually been getting rid of things I bought just to do a post about because in my small home and budget, I can't justify having such excess. Maybe you could every once in awhile do some kind of post about things you have made or bought for your posts, but don't really need or want anymore and offer them for sale. I know Miss Mustard Seed sells things all the time from her blog and because you two have such huge readerships, you would sell things quicker than you could ever imagine. Maybe you could do a "once a month" feature or an online store - just thinking - another way to bring in money that could go back into your blog business.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I didn't say in the survey was I rarely comment because you get so many comments and don't think you'd miss mine, although I read every day. I know you must be super busy keeping it all going, but it would be nice if once in awhile you would comment or visit back. Makes it feel not so one-sided.
Thanks for all your hard work and inspiring posts. Look forward to them every day. Hope you are feeling better and up and around now.
Cindy
I love your blog. It is such a beautiful blog. The pictures are so beautiful. I found you on Pinterest. I also love the stories you write about and your conviction to the Savior. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
ReplyDeleteYou are very brave asking. :) I don't mind if I am corrected as long as they are gentle. I have been lucky in that area. I am glad you will still have recipes. You are such a good cook. I love it. Your list is great also, it makes me want to reevaluate my blog. 1000 replies would be a lot to ask of you - I just want you to know I am there, and I always want to thank you for your hosting that gives us a place to generate followers.
ReplyDeleteYvonne, thanks for putting it all out there. You have inspired me to conduct a survey at some point , to in fact make sure that what I am doing is well received by the readers. You have a wonderful blog....and remains one of my favs. Cheers for a wonderful 2014!
ReplyDeleteYour survey results were very informative. I'll have to tell you, I've been reading your blog since you started it and I've never noticed any mistakes. I look forward to what you have in store for us in 2014!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of moving to wordpress too.... yikes. I don't like change (for me). Looking forward to seeing your new desing. Happy 2014!
ReplyDeleteI found this blog last spring and just love reading it daily. I feel like I know you so well (like a close neighbor) . I am in the process of reading all your blogs from day one. Wow!! Amazing!!! This will take me awhile but so much to learn!!! Thank you for being such a caring compassionate person we all have grown to love. I am also an Empty Nester. Two of my four children are in the military. Five grandchildren, but all 3 hours or more away from home. I so miss the excitement children bring into a home. I do love decorating and diy. My family use to call me tight, but nothing wrong with living within your means and still making a lovely home for your family and yourself. Great finds at auctions, garage sales, goodwill, small antique store up town. Have made much look new again. Now have two bedrooms to do this year and need a little inspiration. I hope to see some of your bedroom ideas as you continue your home projects. This is my first time to comment but want to thank you for such a beautiful blog. I truly enjoy reading it every day! God Bless!! Kathy in Iowa
ReplyDeleteYvonne...I applaud and admire you on your bravery in putting out a survey like the one you did...it can be very scary I am sure!! But what valuable information you received back...my head is just spinning at the thought of how you could possibly make StoneGable any better or more beautiful that it is already!!! I agree with the previous comment from Paula...I don't ever recall reading any spelling or typo mistakes, and I have become pretty sensitive to mistakes since I have had a heckler pointing out all of mine for the past two years. But hey I look at mistakes as keeping it real right? Finally I have to tell you that your passion for creating and blogging exudes within every posts, and that I love these !!! and lots of 'em!!!
ReplyDeleteI so look forward to reading your fabulous blog each day Yvonne. Like I have said before...if you were a magazine I would own a lifetime subscription!!! It will be very exciting to see where your amazing creative talents take you in 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
XO Barbara
Well, you KNOW I love YOU and your beautiful blog. I am so happy and honored to call you my friend. I can not imagine how you can make this blog better but if anyone can it is YOU! I sure hope we can get together SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI just love that you are so responsive...I mostly write about decorating...so I love coming here for recipes...and copying your fabulous style. Whatever you do is great.
ReplyDeleteTry reading the post Anonymous that tells you how to start I have a few others I hit every once in awhile but yours is the first one site. Not sure what you mean by multiple time saying first one site.
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying your blog for a while now. As a still life artist I am naturally drawn to your beautiful images of "tablescapes". Thank You!
ReplyDeleteYvonne...this post is why I adore you. Well said. You handled the requests, praise and yes, the criticism, beautifully. All of your plans for 2014 are spot on. I never thought to share this sort of thing with my readers so if you don't mind, I may follow your lead and do the same thing. Maybe! Looking forward to another great year as one of your faithful readers. (And email subscribers!)
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget good friend, Ann! My posts are for anyone to follow. I think blogger's should hear from their wonderful readers! And I feel the same way about your posts... always beautiful!
DeleteI read your blog everyday. Please don't change it too much. What i like, the cooking...i never actually make most of it but love pretending i will. If you go to extra trouble to do these then let it go but if you are cooking anyway then I want to see what :), the faith-filled posts...I am always moved & motivated, the personal posts about your family & health...so how are you in your recovery from knee surgery? I am still not weight bearing..3 wks to go!, the tuts and tips are the best ever, the decorating/diy superb. Always a pleasure! Btw my man and our grown son are both severely dyslexic and I am always taken aback by prissy pants who point out writing errors. Just sayin'. I applaud you for doing what you despite disabilities/difficulties. Life ain't easy and aging just makes it ain't easy-er. Suzi
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your survey comments....I learned a lot about blogging by reading them. You are a great inspiration and love your blog. Everything is so perfect now, I can't imagine how you can perfect that when you get your new changes going. It is all about keeping updated and keeping everyone interested and excited to see what you have to share. You have got the best blog I have every seen...Excited to see whats new from you..Best of luck in the New Year!
ReplyDeleteJudy
You are and always will be an inspiration to me and others!!! I learned my love of tablescaping from you. I was always good at cooking, decorating, etc. but you "gild the Lily" as you say and now I am trying to learn from you!!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I really enjoy your blog and read it daily. My eyes would be SO grateful if you would consider changing to a larger font for your post text. Someone suggested a larger, left-justified font. That would be great!! Thanks for the effort you put into your blog. It is so appreciated!
ReplyDeleteDid you know that you can change to a larger font on your computer? That might help all 'round.
DeleteI know we will be the recipients of some fabulous things coming from you this year, as in the past…I love everything about the blog and you!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the results of your survey Yvonne. It's interesting to see what people want. I've probably told you (many times) but I love your blog. It is on my "A" list for sure. I'll look forward to your new series about what bloggers do best. I'm taking some time to change my blog up a bit and I would love to be able to add advertising at some point (I'm not sure how many followers I need to do that) so this this "hobby" that consumes so much of my time might actually bring in a little extra income. I thought it funny that people commented about not wanting advertising on your blog. I barely notice that it's there because your posts are so intriguing. Is that a good thing?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, keep up the excellent work that you do and huge blessings to you in 2014.
Love & hugs,
Patti
Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteWhat is the advantage to subscribing to email as opposed to checking in daily?
I LOVE your blog and have visited you for two years. You are a very Blessed and creative woman!!
Thanks for ALL you do, your blog has smart style and true informative tutorials. I haven't been commenting because the comment section defaults to "google account" which will not accept my comments. Now, with your help, I can comment under "anonymous". Gail
ReplyDeleteI too, read your blog often and I enjoy seeing the projects, recipes, and beautiful photography. You are very talented and I've gleaned ideas and inspiration for my own home. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. I didn't participate in the survey but I wish I had. I hope you came away with renewed energy to keep up your beautiful work. Also I so appreciated you as a sister-in Christ.
