This post should really be called...
Main Stairs Reveal... SORTA!
They are done enough to show you the direction we are going... and I am so excited to share.
As a reminder, here is the BEFORE...
and AFTER...
The before is "after" we had ripped out the ugly floral runner (no judging, it was the 90's). Look at all that golden oak!!!!
We (and when I say "we" I mean Bobby) ripped out the runner, painted the risers white, primed the railing and painted it high gloss black. We also painted the spindles and steamed and scraped off the wallpaper inch by inch and painted the walls Benjamin Moore Sonnet.
The runner was installed and I (and now I mean "I") painted the tall white mirror from Pottery Barn Outlet ASAP Graphite, made all but one piece of art and hung it all.
The runner came from a Broadloom from Ethan Allen that we had cut and bound to be a runner. It as a sisal look, but is hard as nails!

We (and I mean Bobby) needs to finish steaming and scraping the rest of the foyer wall paper off and paint the foyer and upstairs hall.
I still need to find a couple of small pictures for my wall art...
And I still haven't decided if I'm going to spray paint the existing chandy oil rubbed bronze or buy the one I have my eye on!
Bobby promises that the stairs and foyer will be done for Thanksgiving.
I'm most excited about decorating this area for Christmas. Lots of boxwood wreaths, black plaid ribbon and paperwhites!!!!
Here's a peek at just a little bit of Christmas on the stairs...

Brilliant. I love the Sonnet with shiny black and white accents. There is a sense of warmth.
ReplyDeleteMay I inquire about the runner? Did you purchase it independently and then have it installed?
It is exactly what I have in mind for the stairs leading to our family room. I would love to know the resource and the details. Thank you, Yvonne.

Your stair railing looks amazing in glossy black. I've often thought of painting my oak railing, but I keep saying "when I take up the carpet on the stairs". and it's still there. Thanks for the inspiration.

Yvonne, absolutely gorgeous! You find so many wonderful things at the PB outlet, it makes me wish I lived closer to one. Now as for Bobby, this guy should be at the VERY top of your Thanksgiving "thankful" list! Thank YOU for sharing.

ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful Yvonne. What an improvement. I really like the black railing!
ReplyDeleteLooks very pretty, love the dark banister.
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a boat load of hard work! Something neither of you are afraid of apparently. Don't know what sounds worse, scraping wallpaper or painting spindles. The white risers, huge difference. The black railing reads like perfect eyeliner. Just beautiful. Suzi
ReplyDeleteI pinned this. My daughter has a stairway in the same shape and she can't visualize how to decorate it. This will give her that visual and direction. The whole stairway is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo much better! I did the same thing and love it.
ReplyDeleteYvonne, this is just gorgeous. I love what you two have done, teamwork!!!! Long that mirror too!!!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Yvonne, You both did a great job transforming the stairs. I bet the wallpaper was not fun to remove.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
PS: Thanks for commenting on my post "PORN...really Dad" and I hope your stitches are still intact.
OH, HOW I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! LOVE it!!!!!!! It really wakes the space up so nicely, and the decorating is fabulous!!! I am saving this so I can (hopefully!) talk my husband into a transformation of our own. He gets so skittish anytime I talk about major changes. He'd be happy to leave everything exactly the same way for all the years we're alive!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your fabulous new area!!!! Happy Thanksgiving!
Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteWow, great job on this makeover! Your foyer/stairs look fantastic. I found the link to your blog on Pinterest as I was searching for info on painting my banister and this was very helpful. I'm curious to know, though, how your paint has held up on the banister with all the "hands-on" use it gets? I'm painting our doors with a Benjamin Moore semi-gloss in a color called Night Horizon and plan on using it on the banister as well. I'm wondering, though, how durable it will be. Perhaps I should paint it and then use a varnish or coating of some sort? Any feedback is appreciated.
We have had no problem. Just remember to put a good primer (we got ours from Benjamin Moore) on your wood first. Hope you love it!
DeleteWOW! this looks great and is exactly the stair runner i am looking for!
