I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Here at StoneGable we are a couple pounds fatter and very very happy enjoying friends and family... but now almost everyone has gone home and it is quiet... maybe a little too quiet!
And I am back to eating healthy!
I've gotten many e-mails asking if I really eat what's on the StoneGable menu. Good question!!!
The easy answer is yes... most of the time! But like you, there are days I just don't feel like cooking... or we go out... or have take-out... or something comes up. I am not a slave to my menu. It works for me not the other way around!!! It also helps that I love to cook and spend time in my kitchen.
I must also let you in on a little secret. I don't eat everything I prepare. I try to make balanced meals for Bobby and whoever is living with us at the time (we are talking hotel here). But I really try to stay away from a carb loaded diet. I have fibromyalgia (another little secret) and carbs can make me very achy. I do eat beans and legumes... but almost no white starches or white sugar.
Take Monday's menu for example. I'll eat the salmon and green beans but not the potatoes! Staying away from a lot of carbs/starches/white sugar and choosing more protein makes me feel better and keeps food cravings away!
Bobby loves pasta so I make pasta often. I love it too... but if I eat pasta it will just be a very small portion. It took me a l-o-n-g time to figure out that eating pasta was not worth feeling like I had been run over by a truck!
Now you know!!! I'm so happy you asked!
Here's what's ON THE MENU....

Here are some great recipes and menus from last week...
I eat eggs almost every morning for breakfast... Betty from MY COZY CORNER just gave me a simple and very delicate OMELETTE FROM MOUNT SAINT-MICHEL to add to my egg recipes. The French can cook eggs... and so can Betty!
If you love Boursin chhese you will love this recipe! Tracey at THE KITCHEN IS MY PLAYGROUND showed us how to make HOMEMADE BOURSIN CHEESE. What a perfect recipe for the holidays!!!
She also has a fabulous WHITE BEAN AND SAUSAGE SOUP I can't wait to try!
Have you ever heard of CHARLOTTE RUSSE? It's a what not a who! This is the most creamy custardy delight!!! You must run over to Laura's at STORYBOOK REALITY and check out this recipe... and maybe give it a try!
I have a foodie blog for you! It's Curt and Jessica's DANCING CARROTS. They have a great recipe for CINNAMON SUGAR PITA CHIPS WITH FRUIT SALSA. This recipe is a keeper, for sure!
Anne, you must be reading my mind! I try to eat Salmon a few times a week. At least for one dinner a week. I love your ONE SALMON PORTION FOUR WAYS. If salmon is a part of your diet you will want these recipes from DOMESBLISSITY!
I really think I can smell these unbelievable CHOCOLATE CINNAMON ROLL PANCAKES from StoneGable! Tieghan at HALF BAKED HARVEST shared this fabulous stack with us! Oh, yummy!
What a lovely recipe... WHITE CHICKEN CHILI! I'll be making this next week with leftover smoked turkey! This recipe and tempting photo are from Mimi at MIMI'S MAGIC APRON.
This week's featured menu comes from J-Lee at DOMESTIC ENGINEER EXTRAORDINAIRE.
She had a pumpkin baked oatmeal that is on my must-try list!!!
Here's hoping everyone has a Thanksgiving full of fun, family and lots and lots of fabulous food!!!

FOODIE FRIDAY
Thanks for hosting, Ivonne....I'm with you on eating healthier this week, after I just linked up a Buttermilk Pie recipe..
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Yvonne, I don't eat everything that I serve to the kids and hubby. And when I do make something sort of unhealthy, I try to at least sneak in a few veggies (like my recipe today). I also serve myself much, much smaller portions than the teens and men. But like you, I LOVE to cook, so it's a little hard sometimes to have restraint! Thank you for hosting, I look forward to this every week :)
ReplyDeletexo, Andrea
Loving your holiday header :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gail
I'm so happy you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm like you, Yvonne, as I just love being in the kitchen. It really is the heart of the home. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to tell you that eating low-carb has done wonders for my fibromyalgia.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!!
Gail
Thanks so much for hosting, Yvonne. Your features look so tasty! I love the healthy additions too. You've inspired me to try harder to eat better during these coming months. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nici
Hi Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteI have had those same emails asking the questions about if we really eat what is on the menu and the answer is we do. We always have a visitor or two, I love to cook and they all love to eat. I always love all the fish you have, I should have more fish. Your menu looks great for the week, thanks for hosting and have a great week!
Miz Helen
Oh, what delicious looking delights. I'm much like you, and don't eat everything that's offered. LOL I long ago learned that I have to limit myself. LOL The Charlotte Russe looks very interesting! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteYvonne...thank you so much for hosting another super party! I am like you where I do steer away from carb loaded dishes, but I do enjoy some of the more complex carbs like the squashes and sweet poataoes! Thank you too for sharing so much of yourself with us...you are a very honest and brave women.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week and God Bless!
Barbara

ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Tracey @ The Kitchen is My Playground
You are so good, Yvonne! I start every Monday saying I am going to eat only healthy foods, but my always thin husband tempts me with homemade muffins etc.
ReplyDeleteI shared 3 things I made for Tgiving, pumpkin trifle, individual black forest cakes, and stuffing done in a bundt pan, AND some new plates that hopped into my basket at CTS.
Have fun decorating! I was going to do a lot today, but ended up making 8 qts of chicken soup and chicken salad instead! Oh well, you can't eat decorations! :)
Yvonne, I have the same issues and this weekend I noticed big issues I related to the Thanksgiving menu and leftovers. I have not been eating the carbs a lot lately and really noticed the difference. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe menus look wonderful and so does your new header!
Now I am REALLY hungry for turkey pot pie!! Thanks for hosting Yvonne. You and your party participants are always so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Your Christmas header is so beautiful! Thanks for hosting :)
ReplyDeleteKelly
Thanks for sharing your menus and secrets, I too have one skinny hungry husband and even though I don't eat everything I cook, I love to cook for him and others! I always try to add more veggies to everything, that makes me happy! Thanks for hosting, I love seeing everyone's weekly favorite recipes.
ReplyDeleteJenna
Thanks so much for hosting, Yvonne. I hope that you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteLots for great menus this week. Sweetheart and I were visiting our family out of town for Thanksgiving. So today Sweetheart baked a turkey with apple and raisin stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beans. Now we have leftovers for the rest of the week. How many dishes can a turkey make? A lot. Thank you so much for featuring my omelette from Mt. Saint-Michel. The french love eggs too.
xo
Betty
Your new Christmas header is beautiful! Thank you for hosting, Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks wonderful, Yvonne. And that pear photo is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you had a good Thanksgiving. I'm with you on eating healthier this week. I to have Fibro, along with Lupus, so I totally understand what you mean about the carbs, it affects my pain level to. Thanks for hosting and have a great week! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for hosting the party, Yvonne, and what lovely featured recipes you've selected. I have to watch my carb intake as a diabetic as well. I usually focus on a green salad or green vegetable for dinner, with a little whole wheat bread and some protein. But like you, I also love to cook for my hubby and make sure he's happy and well-fed :)
ReplyDeleteYvonne~ I wish I had the will power to stay away from potatoes, they are my kryptonite! Thanks for hosting, have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on eating healthy. I look at some things that are high in carbs or calories and think to myself, we don't eat like that anymore.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week and thanks for hosting. BTW, your linky tool is wonderful and the thumbnails are larger than most. Another thoughtful thing you do Yvonne.
Sam
Everything sounds so good!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for featuring my Chocolate Cinnamon Roll Pancakes! And thanks for hosting such a great party!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting! I'm sharing a new recipe that I discovered and we've enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the invite! Wonderful recipes...I'll be back. Although mine aren't really healthy...once a year sort of thing!
ReplyDeleteRuth
I can not seem to stay away from carbs, they are mY downfall! Your menu sounds delicious, I don't have anything to share this week. Not much cooking going on here right now:):) Have a beautiful week. I am decorating like a crazy person. Right now waiting for Joe so we can go to his cousins to get the bottom of our tree:):):)
ReplyDeleteHello! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! Delicious recipes this week, as always. Thanks so much for hosting.
ReplyDeleteYvonne,
ReplyDeleteYour menu sounds delicious!!!
I think I may try your low~carb and see if it will help my arthritis, too!!!
The second week of November, I made double recipes. Freezing half has allowed me to decorate our home for Christmas without the worry and hassel of stopping to cook something to eat!!! What a blessing!
I am working on a post for Menu Monday, but trying to photograph prepared food doesn't happen often On Crooked Creek. "Mr. Ed" does love to eat...and the minute it comes off the stove...he's into the Menus with fork, knife and spoon! Ha!!!
Thank you for hosting each week!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Thanks for mentioning my blog in your post; hope you enjoy the baked oatmeal!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feature! We here at Dancing Carrots absolutely love your blog and are honored to be featured. We never miss a week! :)
ReplyDeleteYour menu sounds absolutely delish for this week! I have to say I am a bit jealous as my week is a little crazy and not planned out at all. I hope you all had wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJust looking at your blog makes me hungry, and I already had my three squares today. I admire anyone who still cooks and you seem like a great one.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yvonne, for hosting these amazing recipe smorgasbords. I love them. I was sorry to read of your condition. I had no idea. I thought you were the sort of person who could eat anything. I need to stay away from dairy products. I cheat though, sometimes. Who doesn't?!! I've made a note of a few recipes. I'm very interested in the chicken broth which is supposed to be so healthy. A few of those recipes are very tempting to me. It's hard though to cook when we're alone which is the case for me. I do love to cook, though, and I do even if it's only for myself.
ReplyDeleteThank you so so much for the feature!! Charlotte Russe is a favorite at our house!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness so much yumminess in one place!!! Thank you for hosting. I'm happy to link up and look forward to hopping around xo
ReplyDeleteYvonne, thank you so much for following Cranberry Morning! It was so nice of Linda to introduce us. I'm going to follow Stone Gable too. :-) I know what you mean about getting back to healthy eating. I have to get rid of the 'bad' leftovers so they don't tempt me!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting! Wishing you a beautiful week. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
ReplyDeleteOh, I can never get enough chili in this weather! Yours looks great! Thanks for hosting!
