I have a crush on shutters! The older and more chippy and more dirty the more I love them!
On a recent outing I talked my husband into visiting one of my favorite antique haunts... and before he knew it he was loading 3 of the most chippy old huge shutters into the back of our SUV!
I had a plan for these shutters... and Bobby...
Sometimes my poor unsuspecting hubby falls prey to my evil creative plans!!! Little did he know he was going to make a shutter headboard for a bedroom we are slowly making over (bedroom #3!)...
Here is just a peek at the headboard...
Here is another...
Would you like to see a little more? Okay...
What... you would like to see even more... really?
More? Now we are only looking at the bed... not the oriental rug that is NOT going in this room... or the nightstand that I am repainting Paris Grey.... or the really pretty custom made bedskirt... they are for another time...
But what I will show you is the beautiful french blue buffalo check fabric that I am making into curtains for this room... I think it picks up the blue in the shutters.
As this room progresses and I complete the bedding, I'll be showing you more and more.
Hope you liked this peek.... okay, BONUS PEEK!
Yes! I am loving that shutter headboard! Can't wait to see it all come together.
ReplyDeleteI love shutter headboards. You were so lucky to find just the right ones. The blue and white checked curtain fabric you have chosen will provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere to the room.

I just had to tell you Marsha, I cannot sing, not one little bit... cannot quilt and I hate to tin punch... and I cannot really bake, although I sometimes fake it! And I am a very nervous flyer!

Gorgeous! and I love the fabric too. This room is going to look wonderful, Yvonne.
ReplyDeleteOh Yvone, these shutters are just perfect for a headboard, but did you have to wipe them down with anything or poly them? I was just wondering how you keep the chippy look in place and aren't they dirty? Just a question from a newbie to the vintage decor trend. I love it!

I can hardly wait to see the rest of the room if this is the beginning. As beautifully as you sew, I'm sure the curtains and bedskirt will be stunning.

The dumbest thing I ever did was allow a pair of turquoise shutters to be sold. I need them now, of course. We thought they would be there when we returned. WRONG. I have kicked myself ever since. They were chippy, too, and perfect.

ReplyDeleteYvonne, you are so talented. Truly an inspiration to try something new. Will you be doing a post on the custom bed skirt? I am redecorating my daughters bedroom and could use a little guidance.
