You never know what you will wake up to! Every day holds it's share of blessing and sometimes trials! Boy. did we have an adventure this morning... complete with police cars...
Early this morning while I was still in bed, I heard people talking outside... our bedroom windows were wide open last night and the sound of voices came wafting through them. Now this is unusual because we have no neighbors... at least close neighbors. I initially thought someone must be out for an early morning walk and was talking very very loud.
Shortly, I went downstairs to get coffee before getting ready for church and saw a man and woman walking across the farmer's field in back of our house. They jumped the barbed wire fence ( long story) into our yard and walked up, right onto my back wrap porch... only several inches from me looking at them through the window. I guess they could not see inside. They were discussing something, this time I could not hear what they were saying.
This seemed so odd. I tapped on the window from inside to get their attention Boy, did I give them a start! I asked them what they were doing on my back porch and what they wanted. Inside I felt very bad for sounding and being so unwelcoming. I silently scolded myself for being un-Christ like.
The man got VERY nervous and said they had been kicked out of a place and were waiting for a taxi (a taxi in these parts and on my back porch?) then he asked to used the phone. A prickly feeling came over me as I yelled for my husband, because the man had a cell phone in his hand. I had really given them a good look and tried to remember what they looked like, what they were wearing and any other detail.
He was standing right on the other side of the glass... so so close. Then he began to walk towards our back french doors. Just before he reach the door, my husband came up beside me, the man saw him and took off running across the fields... the woman ducked around the corner of our home.
Immediately I dialed 911... something was very wrong! Bobby watched the man high-tail it over several fields before disappearing, while I watched the women scurry down the road.
By the time our local police got to our home (they actually were out looking for them) the man and women were gone.
To make the rest of the story shorter... the police knew them, in fact they were "WANTED"!
YIKES!
I have not yet heard if the police got their man and woman but I will be anxious to. There were quite a few police cruisers driving around the area early this morning!
Here is what I have learned from my early morning ordeal...
No matter where you are, even in bucolic Lancaster County, bad things happen and there are bad people who will cross our paths!
Trust your instincts!
You can be Christ-like and smart at the same time!
Err on the side of safety!
My Bobby is a force to be reckoned with. Even his mere presence strikes fear into mortal man!
I heart our police!
Now, I need to settle my nerves with a big piece of that wonderful Cinnamon Roll Coffee Cake linked at the bottom of this week's menu.

Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteI would say that man was on his way into your home. Thank God your husband was home with you! Wow oh wow, what a super frightening ordeal! I have friends in PA [don't we all;)] it always seems safe there, but like you said it can happen anywhere. I am glad you are safe!
OMGoodness, that was an awful thing to happen!!!! I knwo exactly where you were standing, and them too!!! I sure hope they catch them!!!! Did the police say WHAT they are wanted for? Be safe my friend! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Yvonne, what a scary thing to happen right on your porch! Yea for your hubby being your protector. Thank goodness you're safe.
ReplyDeleteAm glad God kept you safe!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the veggie soup recipe Yvonne! So glad you're all safe, I know that's a scary situation. It's been almost one year since someone broke into my home while I was at work and robbed me... Take care:@)
ReplyDeleteI read The Gift of Fear~ a great book, several years ago~ I made the mistake of ignoring "that little voice"...all the while knowing something was terribly wrong, but was afraid I would come across rude. God gave us that little voice for a reason! I'm glad everything turned out OK & you have a husband whose presence is intimidating :)
ReplyDeleteDear Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry this terrible situation happened to you and thankful that you are safe!
THAT WAS SUCH A SCARY story!!! I have to be more careful when I open my front door to anyone. Glad you are safe. I feel like I need some cinnamon roll cake now.
ReplyDeleteYikes! is right. I live in Lancaster too! Glad nothing worse happened!
ReplyDeletePraise be to the Lord for keeping you safe!
ReplyDeleteMy word, I cannot fathom that scare!
Whew!
Oh man, what a way to start the day! Wanted for what? I hope they find them, keep your windows locked as well as the doors!
ReplyDeleteI'll be back to link up!
Oh my Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteThat is a very startling way to start the day, and what a wonderful Praise you have at the end of the day! Thank God He kept you and your husband safe and may He continue to do so. That Cinnamon Roll Cake would sure make it better, it looks awesome! I am sharing my weekly Menu today with links and recipes. Hope you have a wonderful week and thanks for hosting!

Goodness, Yvonne. I know how awful it is to be un-trusting of strangers, but in this case, them coming right up to your BACK door is very suspicious. So so happy it all worked out well. I would call your police and ask them what these 2 were wanted for.
ReplyDeleteDo you guys have any kind of weapon in the house? Maybe a big baseball bat at least. Just remember that lovely family in Connecticut where the mother & her 2 daughters were killed for no reason at all. Get the biggest, loudest burglar alarm with a panic button immediately. Now, back to cooking......
Yvonne I'm glad your husband was there to scare them off. Dont feel bad, we are cautioned to be innocent as doves... but cautious as serpents. So you did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteOh Yvonne, how scary. Thank goodness you did trust your instincts. I shudder to think. And you are so right, it can happen anywhere. Thank God both you and your husband are fine.
ReplyDeleteIt really is so bizarre. Having been to your lovely home, I can attest to the fact that you are in the middle of a corn field with nothing within shouting distance. So glad you are fine. Keep those doors locked.

Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteGlad you are safe. Thank you for hosting.
Pat
I agree with being aware of our surroundings... even in our own backyard...Scary!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are ok and kept your wits about you..the Lord knew before you did what was going to happen this morning.
Thank you for hosting and sharing your great recipes!
Kay Ellen
How scary! So glad that you and hubby are safe.
ReplyDeleteBeckie
WOW glad you are safe! And trusted your instincts!
ReplyDeleteHello dear Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteI can't wait ti do the Asian Salmon... I really need to try this by tomorrow (Swedish day 20th).
TY as always for sharing your never ending inspirations in cooking.
Greetings from a windy Stockholm,

What a frightening experience Yvonne. I would have never let him in no matter what he wanted. When we're in the mountains, we live out in the country and have to be careful even though there's hardly any crime where we live. So glad Bobby came to the rescue and the story ended well.
ReplyDeleteI brought Jacques Pepin's Monkfish a la Americaine to your party today. French food was never easier or tasted so good. Thanks as always for hosting this. Again, we are so glad you are back. And safe too! Bobby is the man.
Sam
Wow that is incredibly scary!! I am so sorry you had to go throgh such an ordeal. Hope they were caught! On a brighter note, missed these menu posts. I have tried several and always loved each and every one. Think I will give the Asian salmon a try since I just bought salmon yesterday. Thanks Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteThat is so scary.I'm so glad your ok!!It's happened to me, so i know how you feel. It's sad that we can't trust anyone.
ReplyDeleteKathy
Oh my goodness that is SO scary!!! I believe you handled the situation perfectly and I hope these people have been apprehended. I live out in the country and used to feel safe but sadly bad people and crime find their way out here as well. If someone would have told me five or six years ago I would have an alarm system installed, I would have laughed but guess what, I have one! Yvonne, you were very smart to trust your instinct. Keep your doors locked and your ears open. Stay safe. Oh, so thrilled to have you back. Really missed you.
ReplyDeleteVery scary, Yvonne! I'm so glad you were able to keep your wits about you and that your husband was home. You're so right - there are bad people out there. I don't want to carry a spirit of fear with me, but I need to do a better job of being aware of what's going on around me. As always, the menu is to die for! I think I need to give the salmon a try - yummo!
ReplyDeleteHow frightening!!!! That couple was surely up to no good and thank God your husband was home with you. We live in troubled times when it is hard to trust others. Good common sense with a cool level head is often needed for making life saving decisions. Use to be that people slept with their windows open and their doors unlocked. We can no longer do that because of the bad people out there who have no respect for the property or lives of others. If you believe in God, then you have to believe in the devil....yes, he is doing his work as well.
ReplyDelete(((HUGS))) Susanne :)
Wow that was scary! Thank goodness you weren't alone. I hope they get caught.
ReplyDeleteI am SO glad that no harm came to you or Bobby! How frightening that must have been & I'm sure the effects will linger on for a long time. We were robbed once & I remember being on edge for months afterwards...PTSD??? Maybe?
ReplyDeleteI made your Nani's cabbage soup recipe last week, but somehow I don't feel its right to link one of your own recipes to your Monday Menu, so I'll pass this week. I need to get used to having you back to doing this, so I can be ready!
Comforting Hugs,
Rett
Rett, I would LOVE you to link Nani's Cabbage Soup! What a compliment to my Nani!

So glad you are safe!
ReplyDeletewhat a frightening experience you had yesterday morning.
ReplyDeleteThank Got that you and hubby were both home at the time.
I am glad that you both are ok because this could have been
really bad had you both been out at Church when they both
happened by.
Your menu for the week looks fantastic.
Denise
How scary! Glad your husband was there to scare them away and hope they are found soon. So glad you are safe! On a happier note, I can't wait to try some of these recipes this week. They sound so yummy! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLordy Yvonne! I am so glad you are safe. I can only imagine if they had gotten inside. Just reading this, I am ready for the cinnamon bun. Let me know the next time you make to Savannah. Blessings,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you and your husband are safe.
ReplyDeleteAngela
My stomach was turning to knots as I read your recount of your scary morning experience. I am so thankful your opened upstairs window (or your guardian angle) alerted you to loud talking.
ReplyDeletebreathing a sigh of relief knowing you and your family are safe.
Wow! Scary indeed! PTL \0/ He and hubs kept you safe! Menu sounds great! Hope your heart is beating on normal now! ;D
ReplyDeleteAll looks delicious, Yvonne. Set an extra plate for Tuesday. I'll be there for some of the salmon. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting. ~ sarah
I'm new to your link up. I just subscribed to your blog. I'm very impressed with your recipes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you share some of them on my "Foodie Friday Linky"
DeleteThe best advice my mother ever taught me was "go with your gut!". Those words have served me well countless times. I'm so thankful you were not harmed - equally thankful your husband was home!
ReplyDeleteYvonne, that is so scary!!! Thank goodness your husband was home and that the two of you are safe and sound. Oh my goodness! You are a smart cookie to take notice of the details and not let them in!
ReplyDeleteAfter all that now I'll have to go look at the meals. Phew!
Sharon
OMG, Ivonne! God was there holding both your hands, my goodness, you two were blessed! You were totally illuminated to notice things weren't right! Thank you sweet lady for hosting and may you have a good and safe week!
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Oh my goodness!! That is an incredible story. I'm so glad y'all are okay.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through Designs by Pinky and am happy to be a new follower.

Yvonne, I'm so glad you are safe and that you trusted your instincts. I'm even gladder that Bobby was home. We had a less scary incident when we lived in the renovated funeral home (the police were chasing a guy, and he jumped over our 6' fence and hid under the apple tree. We were watching TV, and suddenly the police were in our yard). Whew, country life can be the best of the best and the worst of the worst. XX00
ReplyDeleteOh Yvonne, I'm so glad God was watching over you and your husband! What a scary ordeal. I'd say you deserve two slices of cinnamon cake after that one! ;)
ReplyDeleteI was a newcomer to your Menu Mondays, when you decided to take a hiatus. I'll have to scroll to see what's changed, but I see that you are back. Yay! Wow, what a story! You were very observant, and I'd be scared to death to let a stranger into my house. I'm so glad you were protected by our Lord. Amen. Reading over your menu, I'm thinking I should ask to stay a while, and enjoy your good cooking.
ReplyDeleteYikes, missed the story the first time! Scary!
ReplyDeleteMade the Eggplant Parmesan Casserole this afternoon and it was oh so good! My husband said it was a keeper. I made a few substitutions (my shopping list this week apparently lacked some key ingredients!). Instead of the ricotta cheese, I ended up using greek yogurt. And just used canned tomato sauce instead of crushed tomatoes. It seemed to work! Thank you for a new favorite and addition to the rotation :)
