Adding new pillows to your decor is like putting on a new shade of lipstick or finding the perfect pair of shoes to compliment a new outfit. Pillows are the icing on the decorating cake!
Since changing every inch of my family room decor, I am learning to live with neutrals. And I have been hesitant to put too much color back in to my room. Neutrals are a whole new experience for me.
Autumn is the perfect time to experiment with a big splash of seasonal color... using pillows!
I found this lovely soft burnt coral and creamy white pillow cover at the Pottery Barn Outlet. The chocolate brown envelope pillow came from PB too! The pillow with the French writing came with the sofa.
I had been looking for something soft and orange to work with the pops of blue and white I have around the room. Orange and blue are complimentary colors so I knew they would work wonderfully together.
The orange pillow is 24 inches. A very helpful salesperson at PB suggested putting a goose down euro sham pillow form in the pillow case instead of a 24 inch throw pillow form. Great advice!!!! It makes the pillow so much more full. I'm passing along this helpful tip! I love this pillow's fluffy look!
The brown pillow is 18 inches and I used an 18 inch goose down pillow form. I wish it was a little more full~ but then again it could just be the linen. What a love/hate relation I have with linen! Love the thought of it.... hate living with it. It gets so wrinkled. I am just letting it get crumples and going with it! Secretly, I wanted to iron them before I took photos but showed restraint!
I would like to replace the brown pillow with the French writing. I prefer down pillows and cases.
I am looking for a pillow cover or fabric in a heavy blue and white stripe or a deep oatmeal linen (oh, linen again!). I'll let you know what I find!
September is a transitional month at StoneGable. Not really pumpkin time yet but no longer summer. It is a time of soft Autumnal colors and the last of the flowers in the garden.
A time of slowly changing decor. Apples... pears.... twigs and sticks...pretty leaves... and a little room to take a decorating breath of fresh air before bringing out the pumpkins and acorns!

You living room sofa looks very comfy. I like the new orange and cream pillows. I think fall is so colourful and love to bring it into my home to cozy it up. I love your coffee table. Enjoy the weekend! Pamela
ReplyDeleteI guess Fall put us all in the pillow fluffin mood Yvonne LOL! Love your pillows, it's amazing how changing out the pillows gives a couch a whole new look! Pretty pretty vignette too. Enjoy your weekend, Martina
ReplyDeleteWhat a cozy and beautiful transition going on in your living room! Love your flowers! Mine are finishing up their blooming season as well, only roses are liking these warm days of September and still looking very pretty.
ReplyDeleteYour room is gorgeous. Love the sofa, and your new pillows are fabulous. I really love the orange one, such a pretty pattern. Beautiful with the blue accents. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful! Pillows are such treasures aren't they? My daughter says she has a pillow addiction ~ :-). I'll tell you something weird about me (like you really wanted to know!)...I do love the look of pillows but they make me feel smothered for some reason. I have no idea why...just a weird sensation with my bed & furniture.
ReplyDeleteYour home is gorgeous and I know it's going to be fun for you to do something different now. I think that linen is just beautiful! I also think one has to ignore the wrinkles or you will be driven batty...and we don't want that to happen. :)
Have a wonderful weekend!

Very pretty Yvonne, I love the orange with the blue. I will have to give goose down a try... I worry that my Weimaraner, Miss Tessa (a bird dog by nature) would snack on them when I'm not looking.
ReplyDeleteI love the new pillows! The orange looks beautiful with the blue and white. Of course I would think so since my WALLS are a burnt orange and I have my blue and white collection of jars all over:):):) I just today changed out my sofa pillows to my Autumn ones too! I am struggling with what I want to do on the mantle. Tomorrow is going to be a BUSY decorating day: I have a long LIST!!!!!:):) Talk to you soon. Sorry I missed you tonight, will try tomorrow. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. The pillows are perfect. I have blue and white too and think orange is a wonderful color to bring in. The vignette is a soft fall look. I should do a seasonal change that's simpler and not go overboard. Lesson for next time! I always like looking at your rooms. I could take almost anything you have and it would work in my house. PB outlet? I'll check it out this weekend.
ReplyDeleteCheers! Rita
Yvonne, your living room is really beautiful. I like the neutral sofa spiced up with just the right amount of color from the accessories. By the way, thank you very much for the nice compliment you left me. That means so much to a first time blogger who has much to learn.-----Shannon
ReplyDeleteYvonne, The burnt orange pillows are perfect with your blue and white. I so wish we had a PB outlet nearby.

Beautiful setting and love the new orange pillows, that particular color orange is so pretty. Awesome giveaway too! Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteThose pillows look wonderful. I love the pops of color. The flowers are so pretty too. It is nice and cool today here in the northeast so I am inspired to change things up a bit and your post really helped give me a start.
ReplyDeleteI love your transitional decor! I think I will use the idea of an intermediate step before the pumpkins come out. I had decided that I will remove my summer things which I still enjoy so much but a rainy day is a perfect time to putter around the house. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway. I have already entered.
Really pretty Yvonne. My mom has those linen PB pillow covers too. We put bigger inserts in them and they don't wrinkle as badly. We just go with the crinkle look too! Your table is lovely and such great storage. Have a wonderful Fall weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour added pop of colors in your recently decorated family room is just perfect for autumn. I love your new neutral look. I do the same thing in my family room. I love how pillows change the look and feel of a room. I love finding marked down pillow covers from Pottery Barn for an easy new look. You really have a beautiful home, I always enjoy my visits here. Great photographs!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Saturday.......

Yvonne, I love your pillows.
ReplyDeleteThe large full overstuffed ones are great. Most of my pillow covers are PB, too. They really do make nice ones and I think the prices are fair. I like to change my seasonal look with warmer fabrics, too.
Love your living room. Looks so cozy. Your blue china adds that extra touch. I see a Bee pillow sitting in amongst those new colours.
ReplyDeleteHave a great fall day!
I'm loving your look with the new pillows and your GREAT coffee table vignette. Thanks for sharing the tip for using a down euro form in 24 inch pillow cover. Have a great weekend.

Your splashes of color are lovely, Yvonne! I love decorating with warmer colors in the fall. It seems to offset the coolness of the season. ;)

Everything is so beautiful at your home. I just checked out Nancy's Daily Dish and signed on as a follower. It will be (as of course you already are) a favorite of mine. Have a good weekend and enjoy this wonderful respite of crisp cool air. Ah, Fall......
ReplyDeleteyour room looks great, love your coffee table~
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so lovely and the pillows bring it all to life! The burnt orange is just the right pop of colour in the room (along with your pretty flower arrangement). I actually really like the pillow with the French writing and think it goes well with the others (save yourself from more linen love/hate! LOL!) I am amazed by all your talents - from fab food to terrific tables and now delightful decor!

Yvonne, the room looks beautiful & I love the burnt orange burst of color! With your love/hate relationship with linen, I thought I'd pass along some info on fabric that I recently discovered. Have you heard of osnaburg? It looks like linen, but it is cotton. I'm a sewer & I recently bought some. Hobby Lobby has it, as does JoAnn's & Hancock's. I know you sew, also, and thought you might like to look into it.
ReplyDeleteHi Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteThis cooler weather is making me want to decorate for fall, too. Love the new pillows, and that arrangement that you have on the coffee table brings all the colors together. I like your idea of transitional decorating, but I'm already pulling out the pumpkins, etc. Just couldn't wait.
Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteI adore your newest pillow hues!!! I LOVE Autumnal colors...and these are so very soft! I agree, totaly, about linen. I bought a new outfit this Summer in linen. Loved it for about ten minutes...or until the first time I sat down! HA! What WAS I thinking...all those triple digit temps must have gone to my head!
Wanted you to know I really enjoy your new header and the pops of color around your sidebar photos! You are always an inspiration to us all!
Fondly,
Pat

Amazing what a splash those colors make!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the pop of seasonal color your orange pillows provide~ especially paired with the blue! Thanks for the euro sham tip :)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful color combinations, Yvonne! It must make you smile every time you walk into this room. ♫☺♫
ReplyDeleteCould you add some soft batting into the corners of the brown pillow & perhaps even wrap the pillow form with some soft batting to achieve a poofier effect? "poofier"...very professional term, doncha' think? LOL

Hi Yvonne. It's all so lovely! I love that way that you mixed all of the different colors and patterns together. Take care.
