My Valentine and I are having a special dinner. I am not one for going out on a holidays- I think the food is not as good and the tempo rushed. So we are eating in front of the fire at an intimate little table for two.
The table is set with sentimentality and romace in mind. The china is my wedding china. Noritake White Nile. It has a lovely geometric band of soft color and a stylized orchid off-set in the middle of the plate. I think it is more Art Deco than Egyptian. Many of the elements of the table tonight have a special meaning for my husband and I.
The china cups have the same geometric bands and white orchid. The china has a handpainted gold rim.
The tablecloth is a white iridescent organza. It is sheer and light and translucent.
The soft-hued metalic damask napkins are folded to resemble flowers. Look for a tutorial soon.
Orchids tucked here and there continue the theme.
Waterford Lizmore water and wine goblets were also wedding gifts.
The centerpiece is a silver champagne bucket, another wedding gift. It sat in my cupboard and only came out on special occasions. While on a trip to Savannah I found this fabulous way of using it all year long. By filling it with an orchid and spanish moss, it gains the center of attention in my foyer- now moved to be the star of my Valentine table. I carried an orchid on my wedding day, like my mother, as a tribute to her.
Silver accents reflect the fire and candlelight.
Crystal salt cellars, knife rests, bud vase and heart shaped dish add some sparkle.
All is ready for a romantic enening!
I am joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Go see all the creative and beautiful tables. It will inspire you!
This is truly beautiful. I've never seen that china pattern, I love it. You carried an orchid...I carried a poinsettia. I'd say we both were a bit non-traditional. I love how the table is so elegant and romantic, but doesn't scream Valentine's Day. I'm still not sure what we are doing.

Beautiful! The china is very different!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the way you did the napkins..
I have Lismore too, I bought it for myself before I retired!
Lovely, romantic table, Yvonne!
Yvonne you have set a lovely table. I love all the detail and the orchids. I raised many of them over the years. Salt cellers are a popular item in this area. My family has used them for many years and some folks I find, are not familiar with them. Just a little more snow today (18") how about you?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table, as always, Yvonne. I love that fancy serving piece. The orchids are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely table. Cozy, warm and pretty. I love the shimmery tablecloth.

ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful table and the wonderful china, wow it is pretty and pairs perfectly with those napkins. I adore the silver ice bucket it looks great with the orchid...I have been meaning to ask you how you get the watermark on the bottom of your pictures to be big and a nice font...I use picasa and don't see how to make the water mark bigger and more centered, anyway when you get a change I would love to know...love the post as I always do...Phyllis

ReplyDeleteYvonne, this is SO lovely! You did a great job with this tablescape, and I love that you used your wedding china, crystal, and flatware. How romantic! Love what you did with the napkins and the orchids, too. Not only are they beautiful, but so meaningful to you!
ReplyDeleteI like your champagne cooler (I got a similar one for a wedding gift, too), and I really love your bon bon spoon. What pattern is that? It's beautiful!
A+ on this 'scape!
XO,
Sheila :-)
How special to use your wedding china for V's day and I like how you shook things up a bit opting not to go with traditional red & white. Your 'scape looks very classy and elegant as well as cozy in front of the fire. Hubby and I will be doing the same thing as we agree, there is nothing romantic about eating in a restaurant on V's day when it is so busy!

OUTSTANDING!! Such a beautiful collection of your exquisite treasures, Yvonne! Your presentation is flawless. My finger is tired from scrolling UP & DOWN to look at each photo again & again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about eating out on holidays. We now eat at home for the event & then go out afterwards to avoid the crowds. I should have thought of that before picking my wedding day! LOL
Happy Valentines Day to you & your sweetheart!
fondly,
Rett
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnother stunning table Yvonne and the special touches of your traditions make the day and dinner so meaningful. Looking forward to the tutorial on the napkin folding.
ReplyDeleteTo heck with your husband, I'll be your valentine! I love the fact that you did not get caught up in the red of the holidays. Love the special meanings to your table. The orchid theme is just so classy. I am still drooling over the menu though. All my favorites served on one magnificent table?! I would be in heaven! I do hope that you are going to post the recipes. I am still slobbering over the cheesecake stuffed strawberries. Love the china too! I so have to come to PA for some "Sistah Yvonne's Etiquette Lessons"!

What a beautiful intimate setting! Fabulous! And your silver is all polished! I'm so jealous. I never get to have an intimate Valentine's dinner with my hubby. We still have kids at home. That is why my tablescape is set for four. Thanks for visiting my blog & leaving me a comment on my tablescape.
