With Thanksgiving exactly 2 weeks away, I thought I would set a sample table. I set this sample table for 8, but I am having 15 for dinner and 30 for an evening dessert buffet. I am using other brown elements, such as 2 brown leaf gravey boats and brown trimmed water glasses on the official Thanksgiving table, but I could not get them all to fit. I just could not wait to make the centerpiece, and once I made it I wanted to see how it would look on a set table. I am breaking one of my cardinal rules- a centerpiece must not be obtrusive! This one definitely is!!!! But some rules are made to be broken...occasionally!
Thanksgiving is the holiday when everyone, on my side of the family, gathers at my home. It is busy and loud and jam-packed with family love. Thanksgiving is my holiday! Each year I try to do something that reminds all of us of the history and the reason we celebrate.
As I think about setting this year's table, I have a warm and tender excitement for that special day of Thanks... and an overwhelming feeling of gratitude....we are very, very blessed!
The inspiration for this table is a beautiful arrangement I saw on Artie's blog, Color Outside the Lines. It was an urn filled with hydrangeas and pheasant feathers. It was love at first sight! I knew I had to do something like it for my Thanksgiving table! Thanks, Artie.
I will do a step by step tutorial blog on my Thanksgiving urn next week.
The overall theme for the table revolves around acorns. Acorns are big this year, and there are so many pretty acorn elements on the market right now.
Using a mix of dishes adds interest- I like that look best. Keeping with a muted color scheme, of whites and browns, the turkey plate emphesizes the holiday. (HomeGoods)
White plates with interesting edges, that have traces of brown scuffs, peek beyond the Turkey plate. (HomeGoods)
Acorn Plates for bread and the little extras!
Heavy cotton napkins in a soft carmel with edged detail are folded in a fan, to look like a turkey tail. (JC Penney)
Rich brown goblets with a ridged flute, also echo the folds in the napkins. (JC Penney)
Brown and ivory striped pillar candles sit atop worn and rusticly carved candlesticks.
Little acorn salt and pepper shakers, a gift from my Mom, thanks Mom! (Wm-Sonoma)
The overall look is soft and earthy and hopefully very welcoming!
As we get ready for Thanksgiving let's count our blessings, thank God for His goodness to us, and have loving and giving hearts for everyone! Happy Thanksgiving!
A special Thanks goes to Susan at Between Naps On The Porch for hosting Tablescape Thursday.
Susan helped me when I did my first tablescape- she e-mailed me specific and detailed instructions about joining her Tablescape Thursday. You are an inspiration! I am thankful for you.
oh you ALWAYS dazzle me, i love every inch of your table!
ReplyDeleteOh Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteI so love this place setting. It is absolutely exquisite. When I saw those pheasant feathers, I just knew it had to be Artie. Oh my gosh that is just so him, and it is absolutely gorgeous. You did a fabulous job sweetie. I love the mixture of the hydrangeas and the pheasant feathers together. You did GREAT sweetie. Your dishes with the turkeys are so pretty and elegant, and I love the napkins folded as such. Forget my company, sweetie I am coming to your Thanksgiving as I want to sit and look at the beautiful table setting.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful day with me. It is all so beautiful. Love the acorns, and yes they have been popular this year. Have a great day tomorrow. Country hugs, Sherry
What a beautiful table..love the earthy colors and textures and acorns! They are the thing this year!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!
Beautiful; absolutely beautiful!!! Wish I could just step into your imagination and sit a while!!
ReplyDeleteThis is positively ravishing! It all makes me think of rich, dark chocolate with these luscious brown colors. The feathers are just a wonderful touch to a very appealing table.
ReplyDeleteYou take such fantastic photos, Yvonne. What kind of camera do you use? I need to drop some hints for Santa!

Yvonne, Wow...this is positively gorgeous! I LOVE your centerpiece! It would sell for a fortune in a store or florist...it's realllly beautiful! The turkey plates are soooo cute and I'm crazy about the acorn theme you have going. Your guest are going to be in awe of this table! Don't worry one bit about your centerpiece being a bit high. I've read that it's considered totally fine to have a large centerpiece...as big as you want...then you just move it when it comes time for the actual meal itself. So you did GOOD! :-) This is really stunning! And thanks for those sweet words at the end of your post. I'm so thankful for you...so glad you participate in TT and share you creativity and talent with all of us!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan

One word....stunning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful table. All of the shades of brown are so warm and welcoming - just the right touch for Thanksgiving. All of the acorns are adorable. It's great how you combined everything.
ReplyDeleteJust curious how you're handling dessert for 30. I'm always hosting a crowd that doesn't fit around my table and tablescaping for a crowd always presents a challenge.

You know it is bad luck to have an uneven number at your table, so make it 16 and just email me directions to your house! Just kidding! Well I am about the bad luck thing. I can just imagine that the food will be as wonderful as that gorgeous table! My tribe just feels special when I serve dinner on real plates and not paper!
ReplyDeleteYvonne...your table is breathtaking! Your guests will feel very honored to be at your table.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
