SPRING BURLAP WREATH DIY

Last year when I made my burlap wreath little did I know that I would get so much use out of it!

I've decorated it for 3 seasons now and it has been outside in the worst winter we have seen in decades... and it still looks like the first day I made it!

I thought it was time to dress it up for Spring...

This wreath is perfect for our second front door... one that opens to my office and our back stairs. It may be perfect but the door it's hanging on sure needs a little love and a new coat of paint! I'll just add it to the L-I-S-T that we (and when I say "we" you know I mean Bobby) must do later this spring.

I had everything on hand to make this wreath!

If you have not made a burlap wreath yet, you are really missing out! Even thought you may not be crafty... no excuse! This wreath is great for the craft impaired!

Here's how the wreath first looked when I made it...

Since then I added some more burlap ribbon loops with a looser weave. I think it makes it a little extra special!

Here's a little look at the tutorial... easy-peasy!

Now here's how I dressed up my burlap wreath for spring...

SPRING BURLAP WREATH
1 burlap wreath
wooden monogrammed letters (see my source for the 12 inch letters HERE)
nest
eggs
faux flowering branches
moss
wire
hot glue

Nothing is glued directly to the wreath. Everything can be taken off without ruining the integrity of the burlap.

1. Wire the monogram on the center of the wreath.

Wire a nest to the wreath at about 7:00.

2. Sick some pretty blooming sprigs deep into the wreath on the upper left side of the nest. They don't even need to be glued... if they are pushed in good and deep they will stay.

3. Push some shorter sprigs deep into the wreath on the lower right side of the nest.

Add more branches as needed to fill out the space.

Glue three eggs and a little moss to the nest.

So so easy and pretty, right?

I hope I have inspired all of you to give this easy to make and fun to decorate wreath a try!

  1. It's perfect Yvonne, I like how full it is. Im not a fan of a skimpy wreathe. Yours turned out just beautiful.

  3. Perfect for my country house door. What kind of paint should I use to paint the outside doors? Ours are a forest green color and I'd like to paint them a nice barn red color. Thanks.

    1. Goodness, there are so many wonderful reds! I'd say use Benjamin Moore paints... and stay away from a red that has orange tones! How about a beautiful deep red!

  4. I saw a wreath like this for sale and it had a large cross on it. I have the exact same cross and would like to make this wreath. The cross is 16 inches tall-how would I fasten the cross to the burlap wreath?

    1. The wreath has a hole on the back to hang it. Can you suggest any way to wire it where the wire won't show on the front?

  9. I love it, Yvonne! I like how you are able to leave the burlap as the base and change things out for the seasons. I've been wanting to try one of these. I'm sure I'll get to it one of these days.

  10. Love your wreath. I put out a new wreath this year that I found at Home Goods...it is just beautiful! My problem....the birdies thougbt it beautifull too!. I tried to watch for any signs of a real nest but I guess I let my guard down a couple days and there it was!....a real nest with one egg and the birds singing so happily in the nearby tree. I don't have the heart to destroy it. I know the mess I'm in for!. Hoping I'll be able to clean up the wreath and use it again....but it has a lot of beautiful flowers on it that may not hold up to a good hosing off. Any tips that really work for keeping the birds out of your outdoor wreaths? "NO VACANCY". " BUILDING PERMIT REQUIRED!"
    Or maybe birdie diapers?

  11. Yvonne,
I loved your monogram letters so much when I saw it last year, that I ordered one for each of my daughters in law for Christmas--and of course for myself too! Can't wait to paint it and hang it on a wreath. I ordered it where you did and I was not disappointed. Very nice quality!

  12. Yvonne,
Your home is pretty inside and out. You helped another reader with door paint. What color is your door and what type of paint was used? I am new to commenting. I enjoy reading all the comments. I hope you didn't answer in another area. I apologize.

    1. This door was supposed to be black. We don't think it was right. But we ended up loving the color... whatever it is. It's a smoky charcoal/dark blue.

  16. I too purchased monograms from this site as Christmas presents for my daughters. I was very pleased with the quality. It's nice to see creative ways to use them!
P.S. I've been following you since Christmas and I've managed to score 4 Mikasa Italian Countryside plates at Marshall's recently! Four months ago I would have passed them up! Thanks - Lori C
