Do you ever get an idea in your head and in the moment think it is just brilliant! But of course, you have not thought it through very well and have no back-up plan and have almost a compulsion to go ahead and do it anyway!!!
That's exactly what happened when I painted my family room curtains...
They were sorta drab! Very nice... Belgium linen from Restoration Hardware... but very... blah!
Here is the "before".
This room needed more pattern... and light... and a little more color!!!! So, why not start with the nice-but-drab curtains!
I purchased a large wall stencil and went to work! Stop back tomorrow and I'll show you how I painted them...
Do you ever get right into the middle of a project and think... "What did I get myself into"? "Shouldn't I have done a practice piece to see if I really will like the result"?
Oops! Too late...
When the curtains were done, dried and hung I breathed a huge sigh of relief... I'm quite pleased with the results.
Okay, Bobby I have another brilliant idea!!!!
You just might come home before summer's over and the family room carpet will be out on the front lawn!!!
Actually, I'm pretty sure this will happen!
I'm ready for hardwood!

The painted curtains came out luvly Yvonne. Not sure if I am that gutsy though. It's not like a canvas... where if i get tired of it, or overwhelmed I can walk away for a few weeks, months :-) I MUST see it through.

Now, Yvonne, I am going to make a good ole Lancaster Co. connection--remember Doreen from Hymns and Verses whom you met the other night? Well, I am her friend/neighbor/fan and live just down the hill from her. We have been raving about you as we've been gabbing in the cool of the evenings and when she told me she was going to meet you I was beyond excited! (She gave me your card.) I have enjoyed all of your posts as I have gone back to the beginning and savored them all. I love your style!! And as for today's post, I love pattern so I love what you did to your curtains. I also love that you hung them close to the ceiling.

ReplyDeleteA bold move with a beautiful result! I know what you mean about starting a project like this - I painted a wall in my dining room with a similar damask stencil and it was quite a job!!! But the result is so worth it in the end! You did an amazing job!

ReplyDeleteNow I love the way they look - fabulous, truly.....but (sorry had to ask).....how do you intend on washing them? Or is it me? I wash my panels all the time. My husband and daughter are allergic to dust and I clean a lot. I mean a LOT......and with the cat, lordy lordy between dust and cat fur I am always washing my panels.
Just wondering if they are dry cleanable now? Or do I wait for the answers in tomorrow's post? Hope you address it.

ReplyDeleteOh, Yvonne - they are just gorgeous! I can't believe what a difference the stenciled pattern makes. And yet - I get crazy ideas all the time that I just dive into. They usually don't turn out as well as yours. LOL
