I am a casual frequenter of antique haunts. I enjoy perusing dusty isles filled with chippy years-gone-by merchandise... and going through stacks of crisply starched linens... and the smell of old books!
I most often leave enjoying my visit... empty handed!
But, once in awhile I find something that I know belongs to me... that feels like it is already a part of my story. Those are the things I take home...
That is exactly how I feel about this rather tall little stool. I knew it's home was StoneGable! I can't quite tell you why or what it is about it... I just knew!
It has been repainted... I recognize the color and the feel of the wax finish rubbed on it.
I was going to strip it and repaint it... but the color has grown on me!
I think it should stay this soft aqua blue. It just needs a little extra rubbing with super fine sandpaper to coax a soft glow from the wax.
It has a sturdy seat with a handsome design...
It will certainly earn it's keep. It is a useful piece... I think it is rather beautiful in a simple way! I like simple beauty...
I was thinking of stacking small quilts on top of it or using it as a makeshift nightstand. It would stand in very well for a table between two porch rockers, too!
All I do know right now is that this new find... this old stool... has finally come home!!!
Beautiful little stool! I love the color!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely piece and what a great find. It has such graceful lines and I love the pattern woven in the seat. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI love the color of your stool, Yvonne. It's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous looking little stool that will serve you well in a variety of uses around Stonegable. I understand the feeling of knowing when something is just meant to go home with me. I get that feeling occasionally when browsing my favorite antique shop. My last "got to go home with you" item was a complete set of beautiful floral dishes. Have a great weekend, Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteA great find!
ReplyDeletei love your new stool as well as the color. i have a favorite "haunt" to stroll through and most of the time leave empty handed too unless i find something that i "know" needs a new home at my house.

Yvonne, this is a beauty. I like to find simple pieces that have multiple uses. It's fun to look at items that have come home with me through the years. Some didn't have a specific spot to ease into, but always found a place. It's rewarding to take note of these odds and ends that became part of our story. Enjoy this old stool. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLovely and what a great colour. It would look great with a stack of quilts for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty stool! I love the color and the weaving design.
ReplyDeleteI would have stalked you in the store to see if you would leave it behind...lol. It's simple yet very interesting...with the faded color, the sweet turned legs and that woven seat/top. Oh I wouldn't have been able to resist that stool! Perfect for resting a stack of magazines or books and a cup & saucer!
ReplyDeleteI love your little stool. Thanks for telling us its story.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

I love that stool.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I went back with our large vehicle to buy an amazing metal antique headboard from a place I frequent.....only to find the lady in front of me buying it. WHY didn't I put it on hold? And to top it off they had marked it down from the night before.
Ugh. Oh well, things happen for a reason and I was happy for her, and left with two rather large fabulous rusty metal urns for outdoors..............and tried not to pout too much, haha.
Anyway, glad for you - nice piece!
I love the stool and the color! Sounds like it must be chalk paint and wax. Just use an old t-shirt to buff it rather than sandpaper which would distress it. You can always paint over it with chalk paint, so no need to strip. A wash would also be pretty over that blue if you tired of the color. Have fun finding its place in your pretty space
ReplyDeleteLove the stool....and love the color...I am sure that you will have many uses for it....great find Yvonne!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this sweet stool. Love the color and the distressing :)
