ON THE MENU MONDAY~ WEEK OF JULY, 30, 2012

I don't want a garden anymore... okay?

I always feel this way around the end of July. You can have all the garden STUFF until early September!

The weather is so hot and humid, with little rain.. the weeds seem to be winning.. really the only thing that is happy in my garden right now are the tomatoes... and maybe an eggplant or two! And even they seem to be languishing! (WHINE, WHINE, WINE... Oh, yes.. thank you... I think that might make me feel a little better!)

I keep telling myself that the sweat dripping off of my upturned nose and  broken dirty fingernails will be all worth it in a few short weeks. When my freezer is full of great summer flavors, and my pantry holds jar after jar of jewel-toned goodness... I will feel a much fonder affection for my garden!

But right now I am feeling a little (okay... a whole lot) guilty for not being grateful... especially since I just wrote a post earlier today about BEING THANKFUL.

Well, while I work on my attitude...

Here's whats ON THE MENU...

  8. Yvonne,
I know how you feel about the garden. The drought of 2012 is to blame for countless bad gardens.

Thank you for hosting your link party.
    Have a good week.

  9. I ate a good dinner and am now drooling over this weeks menu :-)
Had hamburgers tonight and sweet potato fries (YUM). I do not like a bun, so my patty and ALL the fixings (Sauteed onions, mushrooms and bacon, sliced tomatoes mayo and mustard) were wrapped in 2 large lettuce leaves ( red leaf).
North central Florida has been hot and humid. The only things that seem to be growing rapidly have been the weeds.
Would luv to sit across from you one day and just talk food!
    Cheers, Gee

  11. Yvonne,
We haven't had luck with any gardening of vegetables here on this side of the Prairie! This years drought has destroyed even my, once fertile, herb garden!BUT...we are making plans for a vegetable garden for next Spring...just the same! I love home grown tomatoes fresh from the vine!!! I don't can or freeze...so just a few things would suffice and some to share with neighbors! Thank you, dear friend, for hosting this weekly meme! Right after my annual physical (this week)...I'm making a cream pie! Ha!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  16. Gardens are a lot of work and consequently we only grow a few herbs and tomatoes. You have my admiration. But just remember, you can never have too many homegrown tomatoes.

Thank you as always for hosting. I've linked a refreshing summer salad with cherries, goat cheese and pistachios that's bound to help you forget the heat.

  41. I still have a zillion zucchini off the same freaking plant. I have frozen enough for the year, I've backed, put it in soup and even spaghetti sauce. I'm sick of zucchini. I cucumbers were a flop, I think the heat and no rain did them in. My beans got eaten by a bug, the only thing in the garden to have that problem:( Yep, and tomatoes out the nose. I look like a tomato I have eaten so many. I've got them on a table out front of the house for free, and they always seem to disappear, which makes me feel better. I live close to the farmer's market.

  42. Hi Yvonne,

    Happy Friday to you....

I just have a little comment. I wanted to "pin" one of your recipes from this week's menu (Mexican Explosion Salad) but I got an error message that said "there's nothing there to pin" - or something like that. Am I doing something wrong (probably!) or might it be due to the design of your website?

If you have any help or suggestions for me, that would be great. The salad sounds so yummy and I know the people who follow my "boards" would love it too.

Have a great weekend and thanks so much.

Thanks again! It made my week!
