The summer heatwave has taken it's toll on many of my fragile porch plants. Dispite watering and tending, the heat is just too much for their shallow roots.
Replacing them gives me a chance to bring new mid-summer decor to the potting bench...
The potting bench on my back porch is a great place to display some of my bee skep collection. I have never met a skep that I didn't want to take home!
There is something romantic about the idea of keeping bees! I would like to have them as long as someone else would do all the work... haha!
So, for now... I 'll display the bee skeps and let someone else keep the bees in this 100 degree weather!
LOve those bee skeps, gorgeous.

The skeps are fabulous! Great collection.
ReplyDeleteI love skeps too, mine are packed away:(:( I ALMOST keot them out. I am wishing I had NOT packed so many things. STAY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH! And they started the house: the hole is dug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOO HOO!!!!!!!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteYvonne:
ReplyDeleteI love your collection of the bee skeps! Have you ever seen the bee skeps designed as a light? I am really thinking about ordering one!
Stay cool and have a great weekend!
Yvonne I love your collection of bee skeps! I only own one and it's home is on the mantel in our family room.
ReplyDeleteI love bee skeps, Yvonne! However, I have a husband who hates bees, wasps, anything with a stinger, with a passion. I'm sure if I brought one of these home he'd think I was inviting the bees to make a home!
ReplyDeleteYvonne,
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your bee skeps! When I saw this post it reminded me of your bees and sunflower tablescape. I noticed it is recommended reading above your comments post...I must go and visit, once again. Ha! It appears that you might have gotten a drop or two of rain ...we could certainly use a good soaking rain here on the Prairie. Trying desperately to keep a new (small) tree alive in this 103 degree heat!
Fondly,
Pat
Such a neat collection. I sure know what you mean about having to replace some plants with this crazy heat. Thanks for bringing your post to Seasonal Sundays.

I adore bee skeps...I have just started collecting them this year...planning to do a bee tablescape this summer! You always have the prettiest vignettes! Enjoyed your potting bench post too and it looks so pretty with your skep collection!

How interesting the bee skeps are, you have a nice collection.....I'm sorry to hear the heat has done in some of your houseplants. It's fierce here too. We are busy every evening....lugging water around to all of the things we planted.
ReplyDeleteYvonne, I've long been fascinated with bee skeps and other bee related things. I don't have any of these, but find them fun. I need to look for a few of these to add to our sun porch.
ReplyDeleteLove the bee skeps..especially the largest one! They look wonderful on your potting bench.
ReplyDeleteOh Yvonne ~ your bee skeps are a joy to behold! Take care and stay cool!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley
The bee skeps look great, Yvonne. I know exactly what you mean about suffering potted plants. We are watering ours every day, and they are still sad. This intense heat is getting to everything.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful! Oh, and my window boxes are done....dead, dead, dead. 100 plus degree temps have them looking ready for Halloween!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful they look on your bench....this heat has certainly taken such a toll on everything from plants to birds, to People!!
ReplyDeleteI keep refreshing the bird bath throughout the day....the water evaporates so quickly...so I took a tip from Susan from BNOP..to put ice cubes in it...helps keeps the water from "boiling"!!!....Stay cool...hopefully we are getting some relief next week!
Love the bee skeeps! What a great idea on the potting bench since it is just too hot for most plants!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I am really a big fan of bee skeps, but only ever owned one and it was the centerpiece in my herb garden. Thanks for reminding me just how wonderful they are. I think I'll have to start looking for a new one.
ReplyDeleteI love bee skeps too! They are some of my favorite things and I did used to keep bees in my backyard about 10 years ago. Many fond memories (except for the stings). They are truly unique creatures and fascinating to watch. Love your collection!
ReplyDeleteCindy
You have one of the prettiest blogs... I don't get to tell you enough =)
ReplyDeleteI pinned this. Just lovely =) Shannon
Hi Yvonne, This is a wonderful idea for those times when the flowers just can't make it through the heat! I saw the most beautiful bee skeps in Williamsburg, VA when I was last there, and I didn't bring one home! Oh, I'll have to go back, because I do love them and all things "bee!" Linda
ReplyDeleteYvonne, I love your skeps! I had no idea that there were so many different styles! xo, Kimberly
ReplyDeleteNow I see what all the "buzz" is about! These are adorable! But where on earth do you find these? Are these common at antique stores, or do I have to convince some bees?
ReplyDeleteI love your house, and your porch. Love your bee skep collection!! They look like fun, and so cool to collect. I meant to link up to your tips and tutorials last week, but the fourth threw me off. Oh well, I'll try to do it this week.
ReplyDeleteI love your bee skeps. I have not seen many of them around, but sure do like them.
ReplyDeleteThis time of year, with the heat the way it is, it is so hard to keep things alive. We are fortunate to have well water that we use only for our garden, flowers, and chickens.
Oh no - now I have the urge to start collecting bee skeps! Must stop myself!!
