BLUE WILLOW AND PINK PEONIES TABLESCAPE

The peonies are blooming here at StoneGable! Their big fragrant moppy pink heads bob in the breeze. They are my most favorite bloom... by far!

What a joy to go out to the garden and pick a big armful to use in a tablescape!

I have been planning this tablescape in my head for months and months, anticipating the arrival of these ballet pink beauties...

Can you smell them?

Of course, today's table was inspired by the peonies!  The table is traditional, sophisticated and full of blue and white pieces... just the right color to show off the peonies!

No tablecloth or place mats today. The luster of the mahogany table adds depth and warmth to the tablescape.

Each place is set with a stack of blue and white dishes.

Napoleon bee flatware rests on white ric-rac edged napkins... so girly!

As I was setting this table it occurred to me that I have not purchased new dishes for quite awhile. I keep recycling these!!!  I think my blue and white dishes are my most used!

Little blue and white footed sherbet bowls are just the right size to hold a pretty little peony bloom.

Cobalt blue glasses are paired with a pretty clear stemmed glass. One of my favorite tablescaping tips is to use different glasses on a table. They look so much more interesting than matching sets!

Blue and white pieces march down the center of the table to make an impressive centerpiece!

Two of the ginger jars overflow with the soft pink peonies. The color contrast is striking!

The peonies are with us for such a short time... let's sit and enjoy them while they grace us with their beautiful presence!

  1. Yvonne~ Your peonies make my heart SING and yes I CAN smell their beautiful fragrance! They are here so briefly~ I missed ours blooming this year when we were out of town for ten days, by the time we were home what few were remaining were pummeled by rain. Spectacular paired with your wonderful blue & white collection of layered dishes!

  3. Carolyne Roehm and I are both drooling. Peonies are my favorite blooms, too. Mine have put out minimal blossoms the last few years; I plan to transplant them in the fall. I can only hope that I have a crop like yours. Of course, you know that I love all things blue and white. The footed sherbets are wonderful...want, want, want....ooh no...coveting....I'm thrilled that you have something so gorgeous and versatile! :-) Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

  11. Peonies are such beautiful flowers. I have several bushes in my yard started from cuttings from my grandparents' former home in York County. I hope if we ever move that I remember to bring some of Grandpa's Peony cuttings along to start at our new home.

The table is just gorgeous. Blue and white make my heart sing and this tablescape is a beautiful song. You do have some wonderful dishes, Yvonne, and I love how you can change things up and still come up with a fresh and fabulous design.

  12. They are gorgeous! I picked 2 today, but my bushes aren't giving me an arm full! They are getting plenty of sun, so I don't know why!
Cherry Kay mentioned transplanting. I have never had luck doing that, have you?

Love the blue and white with the pink, just stunning!
Thanks so much for linking to Let's Dish! Don't forget June 20th, at The Beach! Speaking of which, I hope you will be coming out this summer!

  13. Oh Yvonne, what a gorgeous table! Can it get any better than blue and white with pink peonies. I have one lowly peony bush and it came into full bloom right along with the rain! Alas, the ones in this evening's post had to be purchased. I love all of your blue and white, but those sherbets are by far my fav!!! If you weren't looking, they might just disappear.

  21. You have just sparked a wonderful memory for me, Yvonne. These gorgeous colors did it! Your beyond gorgeous table is stunning.

There used to be a wonderful French pastry/bakery/cafe in Chicago that we used to go to often when we were newlyweds.
The walls in the shop were pale ballerina pink.
They had dishes and platters hanging on the walls and they were all blue and white porcelain. I will never forget how gorgeous that pale pastel color looked against the striking blue cobalt on the dishes. I swore I would have a kitchen one day mixing those same two pallets.

Somehow when it came time to make that call, for pale pink kitchen walls, mu husband just couldn't get on board with that decision!

You took me back to that special place just now,
    Thanks Yvonne!
You have such a gift in the way you can set a table.
    :)

  25. Classic and perfect. My father grew lot of peonies, and I have had sporadic luck with them. The ones we planted here did not do anything but die. This makes me want to try again.

  28. You are SO right....blue & white are the perfect colors to show off precious pink peonies! This is beautiful! I really love the single peony displayed in the sherbet bowls. (GORGEOUS sherbet bowls, by the way!) The beauty of using particular dishes frequently is that they become like old friends with whom you can just pick up the conversation where you left off. I have several things that I use repeatedly just because they go so well with so many things! That's usually the criteria for buying things: they'll go well with other things! :-) It's a good thing you didn't get the super early Spring like so many of us did that brought peonies out in mid-April!!!!

  29. Yvonne, your peonies are spectacular. I would love to have peonies in my garden, but it won't happen here in Texas. LOL Love the combination with the blue and white dishes. The stack is gorgeous! You have some of the prettiest dishes in Blogville, and you certainly set incredibly beautiful tables. ~ Sarah
