Don't you just love black and white? Me too! Today's table was to be all black and white except for the herbs. Until I found this simple and sassy flatware!
The color was perfect with the black and white. Then rummaging through my dish closet I found these...
Beautifully detailed green bowls.
Today's table was not inspired by the flatware or floral green bowls, but by the wire pot stand I found on sale at HomeGoods.
It has been sitting on my island for a month holding fresh herbs in terracotta pots.. A little tweaking and it became a centerpiece.
The tablecloth is snowy white and very simple. I wanted this table to have a clean, neat feel.
Ruffled placemats in black add the drama! I just love these placemats. A stack of black and white dishes alternate with white dishes showing off their interesting edges. A green bowl shaped like a flower tops off the stack.
Black and White paisley print napkins are folded into crisp fans.
The centerpiece is a chippy white wire frame holding a trio of herbs in white pots.
I painted the terracotta pots white and added black numbers.
A vintage ironstone soup tureen filled with Ceam Of Asparagus soup awaits the first course. YUMMY! See menu below to get the recipe. Little creamers will be filled with thinned creme fraiche to be poured in the soup.
White Mikasa Italian Counryside cups and saucers and salt and pepper shakers grace the table. These are my everyday dishes. They are used very hard and still look like new. I bought them before they became so popular and pricey!
A large Mikasa pitcher will be used for sparkling water. I collect white pitchers. There is something so graceful about them!
The promise of dessert sits on the corner of the table.
If there is a little room on the table, I LOVE to stack dessert plates, flatware and a fresh set of napkins.
Two white pedestal cake stands are stacked for the display.
Hemstitched monogrammed napkins are neatly folded around the base of the cake stand.
A few fragrant sprigs of rosemary rest on the cut-out cake plate.
Milky white Waterford plates and those fun spring green forks wait for Creme Brulee... one of my VERY favorites! Creme Brulee makes me want to eat dessert first!
A large slate cheese board doubles as a menu board. Guests enjoy seeing what's on the menu!
No candles, no formality, no fuss for this mid afternoon luncheon.
They are replaced with a sense of breezy crispness, the smell of fresh herbs and laugher... always laughter! It is the best adornment of any table!

ReplyDeleteAnother home run, Yvonne! I am a huge fan of black and white; the green accents are a very nice touch. Your herb pots are adorable.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you stacked the pedestals at the end of the table. The hint of dessert is a nice touch. And creme brulee is a favorite in this house, although surprisingly I've never made it. Something to add to my list of things to try. :)

Yvonne, you know that this table makes my heart sing. I did a black and white table with thyme plants in January. The fresh green is a nice touch to the black and white. I have the same placemats. They add a little fluff to the table. Wish I could find more.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing yet another table full of inspiration. ~ Sarah
I just love black and white. So classy! Your slate menu chalkboard is so nice in that little stand. I just did a guest post on my sister's blog "Take Six" with lots of chalkboard paint ideas. A slate cheese board was one of them. You can see it here.

It's amazing -- I was looking for flower pot idea to put in a black wire basket similar to your white one. Gave up on finding the right size pots in white or ivory so was going to paint some terra cotta ones. These give me great inspiration! You have done it again Yvonne. Inspiring work.
ReplyDeleteLove all your dishes, Yvonne, but the black and white check are my favorites. I also love the pot holder ~ did it come with the numbers already on them?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table and does get me in mood for spring table settings. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYvonne, this is just scrumptious. I love that centerpiece with the painted pots and numbers. Great job.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table! I could learn to like green with a few more of these. Everything is so pretty. CHICKEN PARISIAN?! Can I say "yum" and "what time"? I love that dish! Have you seen the pitchers that HG just put out? The ones here are so gorgeous it's hard to choose just one!
ReplyDeleteI love your black & white & green! You have such a flair & an incredible sense of style. Your flower bowls & flatware are so fresh & perfect with your checked stack of plates. Love your chalkboard addition & herb pots too~ *heavy sign of contentment*

ReplyDeleteLove all the edges and the textures. The menu is so yummy too. Mixing in the fresh herbs is such a nice touch. The blackboard is fun too --tres French!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many pretty things on this table! But it's the green that got me. It's all so crisp and appealing. The centerpiece sends me places though. Love love the little white herb pots with numbers, and the wire rack!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find the green flatware is! I can see you using this a lot. Love your combination of dishes as always and your centerpiece is fabulous. Did you paint those numbers without a stencil?? They are so perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove all of the black and white with the sprinkling of green! So nice and crisp! Perfect for early Spring (well, almost Spring).

Another beautiful table Yvonne, you never disappoint. I guess the dish gods must have sprinkled black and white ideas over several of us this week. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table, and your potted herbs are so lush! I would have killed mine by now! :-) The soft green with the black & white is gorgeous. Although it is in the minority on the table, the softness of the color green you chose makes it really stand out against the black & white. Very pretty luncheon table!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Yvonne! My Iris hear thanks you for putting in the green! It all looks so pretty, love those napkins and a great dish stack! Menu sounds wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the herb planters! How sweet, and as always your dish combination is a standout. I am a big fan of anything green - but paired with black and white it just pops!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun table Yvonne. I wonder each week how you will top yourself ~ and you always do! Black and white is my favorite combo, the accents are endless, and I especially like your choice of green. The green flatware is so cute and quirky. =) Marking the asparagus soup to try...and I wish I had some creme brulee right now...for breakfast! I made it for the first time not long ago and we were pretty crazy about it. =)
