St. Patrick's Day Table

A GREEN TABLE:

Here at StoneGable we are getting ready to celebrate St. Paddy's Day. Even though we are not Irish, we will be that day!

The table is decorated in a green and natural color theme. I have heard it said that "all greens go together". Although I don't completely agree with this, it is amazing how greens play so nicely together. Hopefully, this table exemplifies that adage.

The plates are two very different greens as is the placemat.

The dinner plate is dark green with a heavily detailed grape motif. It is rimmed with an oil bronzed-look band.  A salad plate in the same pattern was added to give height but cannot easily be seen. (HomeGoods)

The top salad plate is a pale icyceladon green. It's deep and detailed band has just a hint of brown to highlight the raised design and compliment the bronze band in the dinner plate. (HomeGoods)

The plates sit on a simple round celery green straw placemat. It is just a little darker in tone than the salad plate. (HomeGoods)

Topping the salad plate is a true celery green linen napkin caught up in a woven napkin ring with fun olive green beads. The napkin was folded accordion style, folded in half, threaded through the ring and fluffed. Easy, yet it makes a big statement on this table. (Pottery Barn for both)

A natural colored linen inspired tablecloth keeps the palate soft. (Target) I thought white would be too harsh for the look I wanted. This tablecoth takes much less care than it's natural linen counterpart. It can be machine washed and irons effortlessly! It may not have the elegant hand or detailed hemstitching of real linen, but the trade-off of easy care ( and not dry cleaning) is worth it to me!

Green-splashed goblets bring a little fun and sass to the table. (HomeGoods)

The flatware  Napoleon Bee, from Wallace, is a new addition to my collection. I have a thing about bees!  I had admired this tableware on several decorating blogs and just knew I'd save my pennies to get it. But, I didn't have to save long. Bobby gave a set to me as a gift. Thanks, honey!

A large oil-rubbed bronze planter with a cocoa liner holds a fluffy Aspargras fern. After it graces the table it will eventually makes it's way to the porch. (Ken's Gardens)

Three crackled porcelain pears sit at the base of the urn.

Soft green pillar candles in tall glass clyinders are surrounded by smooth pebbles.

Curly willow twigs were added to give interest to the table and continue the natural feel. Pebbles were strewn along the path of the curly willow. I love "sticks and twigs" and use them often in decorating. Look for an upcoming post about decorating with them.

We are having friends for an Irish inspired dinner.
Menu:
Irish Soda Bread
 Beef Brisket with Whiskey Glaze
Potato Farls
Fried Cabbage
Bailey's Irish Cream Bars
Guinness Beer
Irish Coffee

An Irish Blessing:
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I am participating in Tablescape Thursday with Susan at Between Naps On The Porch.

  11. Once again I like that you did not go with the expected. What a lovely table for St Patty's Day! I am Irish and I will be attempting my first table scape for it. The brisket will be in the brine on Sunday. Even though I do alot of Irish recipes through the year, my hubby always insists on traditional corned beef. I just hope that our table looks half as gorgeous as yours!

  12. You've proved its true - so many tones of green do go together - Love yours! And it is nice that your "green" table speaks of St. Patrick's but doesn't "scream" it with everything themed. My fav are the colour of the gorgeous round placemats!

  17. That is a very sophisticated table, Yvonne, and I love your mix of elements. That iron urn with the aparagus fern is stunning. When I was Arrangements Chairman of a women's group and also for church parties, we used asparagus fern a lot, and I love to see it in arrangements.

I love your goblets... they look like Murano glass, and I love the dishes, the napkins, the napkin rings, and the flatware. It just sets a stunning table. You are SO good at this. I always love to see what you are going to do.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  28. Like that you used the linen look cloth- very natural and soft. The multi color and natural colored elements work harmoniously together imo. Great contrast of the rustic urn with the airy asparagus fern. Also liked the pebbles nestled in the candles. Guess you can tell i liked your table!!

  30. What a beautiful table scape! I love that it's a subtle green, and not the crazy circus green that St. Patty's Day usually comes with. :) You are so good at decorating a table! Are you sure you don't secretly work at BH&G?? ;-)

  36. Hi Yvonne,
I absolutley love this table. It is so soothing and earthy with your twigs and stones. The different textures and elements are amazing right down to your plates (love the border) and glasses (are so intrigueing). Your bee flatware is darling too. Is is very costly?
Your menu looks pretty tasty and your friends will be very lucky to enjoy that festive Irish meal with you.
    Cheers!

  38. Potato farls?

This is gorgeous. I'm loving those goblets, I keep looking for new ones that really capture my eye...as if I need new anything:) I love the mixing of the greens. I do agree with you that they don't all work. When I pulled out my things yesterday to set my table, I had mint green napkins that looked horrible with my lime green placemats. I ended up using cream instead. So, they don't all work...but, yours certainly do. Love that centerpiece!

  39. Yvonne,
Your table is designed to perfection for a festive St Paddy’s Day celebration! I’m still collecting myself from viewing your Napoleon Bee flatware. The fern centerpiece is elegant in a loose relaxed fashion that has a sensibility I appreciate.

This is absolutely spectacular! I think you've outdone yourself this time! I love the way you've blended the many shades of green and offset them with earthy browns and natural textures. The asparagus fern's fresh green color and airy, exuberant "attitude" seem just right. Your photography captures it all beautifully. Congratulations on having created a tablescape to remember!
