I've been waiting a long long time to share these floors with you. Finally... there are new hardwood floors in the family room!
Here is what the room looked like before (with the ugly fuzzy carpet)...
Before...
After...
We were able to get the same hardwood floors... manufacturer and color... that were originally installed in our home.
The color is "gunstock oak" but it is really a chestnut color. Chestnut trees grew almost like weeds here in Lancaster County, but a blight is slowly killing them. Bobby and I thought our floors should be a tribute to the Chestnut trees that are a big part of our local heritage.
I got a soft and fun "throw" rug at Overstock.com. It is a nice neutral color that brings a nubby texture to the family room decor. I did not want to invest in an oriental carpet at this time. And I did not want a light colored carpet... just too much traffic in this room. So I chose a very very neutral carpet that's texture adds to the room.
Did you notice the new sofa? It was part of my winning from Lamps Plus. Very comfy!
I think the room looks just as cozy with bare floors... and the small rug... don't you?
Because this room is so neutral, I can bring in any color to give it a little more life. Right now I am liking a denim or indigo blue!
I just got this fun polka dot runner from Pottery Barn Outlet!
My room's never seem to be done... now I'm waiting for a new chair to replace the black one and I am working on some wall art with barn boards.
To read how all this hardwood floor "stuff" started... see THIS IS MAYHEM! , a post about my new hardwood floors!
Remember to
Your eye for decorating always amazes me.
ReplyDeleteLove your boards, they are so rich.
hugs Kay
Oh my dear Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteWhat a room!!!! The floor is a dream!!! Lucky you!
Love also the mirrow decoration! What should I say, everything is fabolous!
All the best from Austria
Elisabeth
Your family room was beautiful before, but now with the addition of the wood floors it is absolutely perfect! I love all of the pretty blues and mix of textures throughout the room too. Can't wait to see the new chair : )
ReplyDeleteThe room looks so nice, Yvonne.

I am totally in love with the textured pillow on the couch and how it ties in with the nubby neutral rug....such a beautiful room and it's going be a great canvas for future seasons!
ReplyDeleteLove your new floor and the overall appearance but I have to be honest and say the new rug isn't doing anything for the room. Sometimes photos don't due justice to how items actually look. I hope this is the case. You have superb taste, but I think you missed with this one.
ReplyDeleteI love the blue accents, and the hardwood looks beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLuv the floor. But then, I am a fan of hardwood floors. We have them in our home as well. The texture of the new rug and the pillow on the new sofa... perfect!
ReplyDeleteAwaiting the reveal of the new chair.
The room looks beautiful and I have been slowly moving away from carpeting for quite some time. A beautiful sectional carpet can be just as nice and then you can change it. Wood floors look so warm. You've made your home look so cozy and inviting.
ReplyDeleteYour room looks very cozy and inviting with the new hardwood floors. I love the color!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful!!!!! How nice to use chestnut! You know I love the blue and white touches!!!! The console table vignette is fabulous and I like the baskets spread out on both sides of the fireplace. XOXO MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is something about hardwood floors that really bring out the beautiful details to a room. Very lovely and inviting!
ReplyDeleteIf I ever build a house, I think I'll put hardwoods in every room! Okay, maybe not bathrooms or laundry room, but everywhere else. You just can't beat the look, can you?
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you chose a chestnut color for your floors. I love details like that!
Congrats on putting together a beautiful room, top to bottom!
Love the floor, beautiful color! The blue accents and the round mirror lovely too!
ReplyDeleteCould you attach the link for the rug? I have been looking for one just like it!
ReplyDeleteYvonne, The room looks beautiful! Just love hardwood floors, too! And in the mirror I noticed the plates hung on the opposite wall. Nice! I love that look. So happy for you!

Your room looks beautiful. We have just recently pulled up our last bit of carpet in our house to replace it with hardwood. The house feels so much cleaner without carpets, especially with 3 dogs. I noticed your Willow Street sign above the door; I live in Strasburg!
ReplyDeleteSmall world, Lenore! My mom lives in Strasburg! Don't you love where you live... such a beautiful and historic little town!
DeleteYvonne, I'm a quiet reader, admirer. Love your new floors and I think the rug looks great! Could you share the brand of wood flooring you installed? Does chestnut have a touch of red to it? Hard to tell on the computer. Thanks, Sara
ReplyDeleteHi Sara. The brand is Casa De Colour. It has just a touch of red. They are very traditional.
DeleteWhat a difference the rich coloured wood has made!
ReplyDeleteYour whole living room is lovely.
I love it!! We are doing hardwood floors this year and can't wait! :-) You said "new sofa"? I thought you slip covered your sofa? I could be confused with another blog. lol
ReplyDeleteYou are right. I did have a sofa slipcovered in white duck... We put that up in a sitting room off of our bedroom. I love to lay down on it so up it went so when we watch tv at night I can snooze too. This sofa is a natural duck slipcovered sofa from Lamps Plus. They look very similar unless you see them together.
DeleteI thought I had the right blog, :-D
DeleteYour family room looks lovely, Yvonne! My eye was drawn to the warm wood tones and textures in the room…beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love your new hardwood floors Yvonne! The wood really warms up the room and goes so well with your other wood accents.
ReplyDeleteYour new hardwood floors are beautiful Yvonne and the rug does indeed add great texture. The textured pillow on your couch and the baskets all tie in nicely too. Did you decide on which chair you want for the room? Blessings to you my dear lady,
ReplyDeletePatti
I did decide on a new chair... I'll show it as soon as it comes in!
DeleteHappy Mother's Day! ;) Congratulations on your beautiful new hardwood floor -- it really adds warmth and depth to an already lovely room! And your blue pillows are gorgeous! I like the idea that you can change your pillows and accents to any color, and thus change the mood of the room! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteIt's just beautiful, Yvonne.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia;)
I LOVE your new floors and I am sure you are doing a "happy dance" on them!!!...I had Gunstock by Bruce years ago and loved them!...Enjoy many, many happy times to come in that gorgeous room!!! Your "loves" did a fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteYour "hearts desire" is a real piece of jewelry in your family room...
ReplyDeleteI love your new hardwood floors and I'm thrilled to know the name because I'm researching hardwoods for Phase 2 of our renovation this summer. Your family room is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love the new area rug that you added to the room. The wood floors are great. One can never go wrong with wood floors. They go with everything. I'm looking forward to seeing which Lazy-Boy chair you selected!
ReplyDeleteSue V.
That looks even cozier, and I love the blue you've added. Could you share the details on the rug. I'm try to convince my DH to go for that style, but he insists they're too rough on the bare feet (as if he ever goes around bare-footed).
ReplyDeletetd, here is a link to the rug I ordered. It is nubby, but pretty soft for a jute rug!
DeleteThey look gorgeous, Yvonne! And, your new sofa, rug and polka dot runner are fantabulous additions, as well! Your already beautiful room is over-the-top now!
ReplyDeleteYour taste is so exquisite! Everything you touch turns into eye candy! Today with gray clouds and wind, wind, wind, I would loved to be snuggled up on your couch with my blanket and a good book.
ReplyDeleteThey look great, Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteLooks stunning!! What a beautiful / relaxing room :o))
ReplyDelete~Yvonne~
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful ! My niece and her husband built a lovely new home, and they actually went into their woods, and hand picked the oak trees for their floors. I think that is the best part of their home to know a part of their home is from their own land
Have a super day

we put hardwoods in our den, dining room and hallway a few years back and i've never regretted it! i also put a nubby rug down that i found at ross for $89! then i layered my zebra rug on top (not real but faux bought at overstock!). i love my neutral room and it's so easy to add different colors with pillows, etc.
ReplyDeleteyour room really does look cozy...i know ya'll will enjoy it for many years!
You've made it look really pretty and cozy! Fab decorating...
ReplyDeleteYvonne,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous hardwood floors, dear friend!!!
I adore the historical connection of the area to your home!
Great traffic area rug!!!
Indigo (or navy blue) seems to be making a wonderful comeback in home decor.
I love how you've use this hue in throw pillows and runners!!!
Lovin' you new couch, too!
Keep the inspirations comin'. . .

Pat
