GO CHROME!

Today's post is a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

GO CHROME!

I must be one of the last bloggers to switch from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome and all I can say is...

WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG!!!!!

I guess I was afraid that it would not work, or if I did not like it I would not know how to switch back. I always have that heart stopping fear grip me when I do something new that might effect my blog! I am not a techie, however since I've been blogging I am learning.

I was having so much trouble with Blogger over the last couple of months I resorted to calling it names!

Finally one day, after listening to many bloggers suggest switching to CHROME as their server and reading all I could about it, I threw up my hands and gave in.

Can you see me doing the happy dance of joy? I am sooooo fabulously happy I did!

Why go CHROME?

Here are just a few of my personal reasons:

~ I am a horrid speller... no, the worst.  Now when I misspell a word while writing a post, e-mail, comment etc., it is underlined in red. How many people do you know that use GOOGLE like a dictionary?

Side Note: Thank you my wonderful blogging friends (you know who you are), who kindly e-mail me gently suggesting the correct spelling for misspelled words. Now you will have to start sweetly correcting me on my deplorable grammar!

~ faster posting... Chrome is a racehorse compared to that ol' mare Internet Explorer! My pictures upload quicker and so do my links. And you all know that I love different colored fonts in my posts. Well, they used to take forever!!! Now it is no problem.

~ cute little folder type tabs appear across the top of my screen that let me easily click to another site. I don't know the technical name for them... they are cute to me!

~ When you click on a cute little folder tab a page opens with thumbnails of your "most visited" and "recently closed" sites. Just click on that thumbnail and the site come up. FABULOUS!

~ ease of finding a web sites, just begin to type the name in the URL bar and several site choices appear in a drop down box. Find the one you want and with a click you are at the correct site!

~ Bookmarking is a breeze! I now have that darling bookmark star in my right toolbar. When I click to open a new tab the bookmark toolbar appears across the top of my page until I choose a web site. HANDY!

There is nothing so far that is a drawback... OKAY.... one thing.

I lost my volume icon in the bottom right of my screen. I need to figure out how to get it back. I am not fond of all the music on other blogs. Sorry, nothing personal... I just usually am listening to the news or the cooking channel. So when someone's beautiful blog music plays I don't have a convenient mute button.

Whether you have a blog or not, give Chrome a try by clicking HERE! I bet you will like it as much as I do!

This now concludes our PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.

Thank you!

  1. Good to hear that you are pleased with Chrome. I thought maybe Chrome was something that I should get, but since I am on a Mac, it really doesn't offer me anything additional.

  3. Hello Yvonne,
I have Chrome since long. And mostly I am very satisfied with it. I hadn't have all the blogger problems recently.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  4. I love Chrome too and have used it for some time now. It's so much more sophisticated than IE. In the beginning it had it's glitches and from time to time I had to go back to IE to post to my sidebar, but that's all fixed now.

I'm with you on the music issue. It always startles me when it begins and I make a mad dash to mute it before my husband calls from the other room "what is that?"

  5. You have given me thought and I will consider making the change. Blogger is giving me grief when posting pics etc.

  6. Yup, count me in on the world of Chrome too, love it. You can also count me in as one who prefers blogs without music, I'm usually lost in someone's beautiful post and pictures and on comes the music. I guess I should just go in and mute my volume but I do love having it on for Skype calls.

  7. Thanks for the information. I haven't been blogging much, but this sounds like the way to go!

  8. I'm amazed that you didn't do this a long long time ago! Internet Explorer is fraught with problems. As soon as we get a new computer the first thing we do is get rid of the internet explorer browser and get on Firefox/Google, etc. I always use spell check on my emails because I too make a fair amount of errors! As far as grammatical errors go...oh well...I would never send a blogger an e-mail to correct their spelling! Gees... that's just too uptight for me! I hope you survive this weekends high temperatures I know your area will be getting! We've cooled off a bit here in Michigan and the humidity has settled down more too. Have a great weekend! Liz

  9. Ms. Yvonne, I had to switch a few months ago when I couldn't comment on a single blog! As soon as I switched to Chrome it was like the heavens opened up to blog land! lol! I do love it much, much better!
    Have a great weekend!

  11. Yvonne ~ I love your blog, menus and decorating ideas! I was searching your blog for the brand and color of paint that you used in your kitchen; but no luck. Would you mind sharing that info? Thanks so much!Enjoy the rest of your summer!

  12. I switched from IE to Mozilla's Firefox a few years ago and have never had any problems either. If I ever do, I'll try Chrome though. Good to read your review!

  13. I switched to Chrome a while ago too. There are a couple of glitches that I have found. When processing an order through PayPal, I am unable to create a label for some strange reason. I always have to switch back to IE to finish my orders. So, if you find glitches, jump back to another browser and see if that works.

As far as your volume icon. You may have to go into your Control Panel and see what options you have under Sound. Hope this helps!

  14. I use Firefox Mozilla too. It doesn't help with the blogger problems about posting though!
I agree about the music. I don't want to subject others to my taste in music, so why must they do it to me! :) And yes, I usually have something else on too, so it is VERY annoying!
    That and word verification, grrrrr!
Glad you like chrome, if I ever trouble I can change!

  15. Thank you so much for the PSA, Yvonne. I didn't know if I should switch or not, for exactly the same reasons you expressed. I'm always scared of changes! Its taken a long time to get comfortable.
I've used Firefox for years but I was still having *issues* with blogger until I started using Live Writer to load all my photos.

I would also like to say that anyone who finds a spelling error on my blog is more than welcome to email me & help me correct it. I think its just a very nice thing to do & I would be delighted to have a second pair of eyes looking over my shoulder. We should all have each other's back! You know, that old Golden Rule... "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" sort of thing.

    Hugs,
    Rett

Oh and I love my spell check too..

  17. Yvonne, I switched from Internet explorer to firefox long time ago and it has the spell check, too. I did use Chrome one day when firefox was having issues and it is fast, but I am just so use to Firefox. They have a lot of the same offers.

  18. My techy son switched me over to chrome about a year ago, but I found that not all of my text would appear in the comment section of some blogs and/or business websites. So in the end, I switched back to Firefox. Too bad, I really liked it.

  19. I'm going to look into it. Just an idea but does your keyboard have a volume key(s). Our has a {plus} and {minus} key that my son just told me this week was volume. Didn't know it was there until he pointed it out.

  20. I agree with you about the music. The other night I was reading blogs in bed and unexpectedly music came on and woke him up. He was working the early shift so I felt terrible. I like the volume on to know my emails send and I forget to turn it down.
I switched to Google Chrome too and it works on my Macbook and I think it is a little faster.

  21. Oh yes Yvonne - my teenage son had been nagging me to go Chrome and I finally did (really just to pacify him) and it is a whole new wonderful world! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!
You are indeed performing a public service by spreading the news.
    Hugs,

  22. I know all about Chrome already. My son would say, Mom Internet Explorer is a piece of junk! Like you, I was ok with it until I had so many problems with blogger. I's like a new computer. Ha ha
By the way I love your blog and follow you all the time. Thanks for so many wonderful ideas!

  23. That sounds interesting. I'm still struggling with creating my blog. My big problem now is that my blog seems to be too big for the screen. I've tried everything...I think! Maybe Chrome would help.
    Blessings,

  24. So glad you finally jumped a sinking ship (although IE still commands a 40% share of browsers, they are sinking fast). I switched years ago to firefox so I know how happy you are now! Congrats on the big move (isn't everything new always a bit terrifying?).. xo marlis

  25. A friend of mine, who is somewhat of a computer guru, recommended that I switch from IE to Firefox as I was having some issues with IE. I must say it took me a while to get used to it, but once I figured out how it works, I love it! Very much the same as what Chrome has to offer. BTW, she also recommended Chrome as an option. She switches back and forth between the two (and sometimes IE) depending on the website. Apparently, some sites work with one better than one of the others...why, I have no earthly clue!!! But, I'm very happy with Firefox so far :)
This ol' dog can still learn a few new tricks...LOL

  26. I have been using Chrome for several years and love it too! It's always scary to move to another way of doing things but this time it was well worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Haha! I love how you wrote this! It was such an entertaining read. I too use either chrome or Firefox!

  28. I got your note. Thank you.

By the way, I will have a boutique post tomorrow, and thanks for linking up on August 1.

  29. My husband recently introduced me to Google Chrome when Internet Explorer wouldn't allow me to download Flash Player. I switch back and forth between Chrome and IE now, but will probably go all Chrome in the near future. I'm resistant to changE! :-) I am on WordPress rather than blogger, though, so I don't know if it would make a difference with that. I'll have to try it out!
