One of my favorite ways to make a tablescape memorable is to add something simple yet special to each place setting.
It's like a personal welcome to each family member or guest as they sit down to the table!

ADDING POP, PRETTY AND PIZZAZZ TO ANY TABLE
Here's one way to make a table memorable!
A table can go from good to memorable when you...
ADD A GREAT BOWL...
(To go to the original post of each tablescape, click the name under the image)
Adding a bowl that is unusual or interesting or fun or seasonal brings an extra layer of style to the table. A small accent plate that is distinct can do the same.
This big green flower bowl adds a big happy pop of color to a black and white stack of dishes.
A beautiful rose bowl mimics the roses on the table. The tea table was set for royalty. Roses and silver were a must!
Let's celebrated a Strawberry Festival! The strawberry bowl carried on the theme!
Doesn't it look yummy!
When a bowl looks like a crown it is just the right thing to top off a bridal veil tablescape.
This is a favorite of mine.. it has a special story to go along with it!
Look at this unusual little blue and white bowl. I use it often because of it's tiny pedestal. So pretty!
It works in a sea of blue and white on the table!

This demure table is all about daisies! The sweet yellow bowl adds a big dose of happy color and carries out the theme!
The table was set near my perennial garden when the daisies were in full bloom!

Although not a bowl, this sweet little purple plate brings color, fun and life to this softly colored lilac tablescape.
This table was set for an intimate Mother's Day lunch on the porch.

Here's a few helpful hints for collecting interesting bowls and accent plates...
~ Don't spend a lot of money.
I find many fun bowls and plates on sate at stores like Pier 1, HomeGoods and TJMaxx.
~ You don't have to buy a set of 8!
If I see a bowl or accent plate I like and there is only one, I buy it. I can use it on the table to hold a condiment or a candle. It will add interest to the table.
~Use them!
Don't let pretty bowls an accent plate decorate your cupboards! Use them often!

Love the way you layer all your plates and all the pretty edges. Not a fan of cooking, but love to set the table! Your tables are always such an inspiration.

I agree that these settings are all beautiful and I am an avid tablescaper also. But, I have a question - what do you do with all these bowls and plates when the food is served. What if you are not serving anything that would fit into a cup or bowl, or do you work your menu out so that you will always start with something that could be served in the bowl/cup first, then remove it for the next course, etc. Do you just plan on eating off of a plate with a plate or two stacked under it like you would a charger?
ReplyDeleteWhen guest are sitting at the table I generally whisk away all the dishes. Then I can use the ones I need. My dishes don't always match my courses.
DeleteYvonne,
ReplyDeleteLove that you are doing a table setting series.... Seeing how you use these beautiful bowls is a great tutorial for me! Are you including how you use flowers effectively in your table setting series? If not, I encourage you to add another post to the series to illustrate how you use floral arrangements and to include a few comments about HOW you create your beautiful arrangements.
Judith
I sure am Judith! Flowers are part 4 in the series! Thanks for asking!
DeleteYour tablescapes are the best in the universe! Love eac and every one.
ReplyDeleteEach of your tablescapes is lovelier than the last. You have an amazing eye for composition! I just brought two colorful bowls back from Mexico and I use bowls as the centerpiece also and build around them, not as artfully as you though. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am wondering the same thing as the comment above about how you serve with all of the plates and bowls. They are truly beautiful stacked, but not too practical for actually eating off of.
ReplyDeleteYou are exactly right.
DeleteYvonne this is so lovely to add a pop of color with pretty bowls!

Lovely post. I always think I have to have 6 - 8 of any style, but anyone can afford 1 or 2. Perfect for having one special friend over for dinner or lunch. I swear, every time I read one of your posts about dishes, I want to head right out to the store :)
