They say a picture is worth a thousand words... and I think this picture says it all!
When I think of a cozy home... a shelter from howling winds, falling snow and dropping temperatures I think of warm and wonderful ways to chase away winter's chill.
Here at StoneGable, this is my cozy spot...
Today, I'm part of the...

For me, this is what I think of when I think of a cozy home...
1. A leather club chair and ottoman
2. Cuddly pillows
3. Lots of throws
4. Soup
5. Some great magazines
6. A roaring fire
The club chair and ottoman are pulled close to the fireplace. We can get some very frigid north winds and weather at StoneGable!
This is the best spot in the house on a blustery cold day...
Gotta pile the chair with pillows and a couple of throws for extra comfort. We are never at a loss for lots of pillows at my house!
The blue and white pillow is really a bed pillow sham with a feather pillow in it. Who says you can't use it downstairs! We love the pair!
I've been cooking homemade Chicken Noodle Soup since late this morning... the house smells so YUMMY!
I could eat soup all winter!
Click HERE for the recipe. There are quite a few "secrets" to making the best Chicken Noodle Soup!
A late lunch is served on a sturdy wooden tray.
Chilly Day Menu...
Crusty French Bread Sticks
Oranges
Chocolate Macadamia Chunk Cookies
Flavored Water
For me, nothing is better than sitting by the fire reading a pile of magazines... I must have dozens of them spread all throughout the house.
I find so much inspiration from mags and catalogs. What a great way to spend an hour or so while staying cozy!
Did you notice the white tulips? They are a little bit of just-around-the-corner spring cheer!
Now that I am snugly and warm... well fed and read... the only thing left to do is take a little afternoon nap!
Sweet dreams!

Yvonne,
ReplyDeleteLove your cozy home tips...especially magazines and catalogs. I also would add reading blogs.
Judith
P.S. Look at the title in your first photo.
Judith, thanks so much! I am such a horrid speller!
DeleteI could spend all day in that chair by the fire looking at magazines and reading. Your room is definitely cozy and a wonderful place to spend time with family.
ReplyDeletecan we cuddle together??? :)
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a warm and inviting spot. I would love to curl up in that cozy chair on a cold winter day! Your leather chair looks so soft and comfortable. Where did you find it? It looks like a perfect size, not "'massive" like some of the chairs I come across in furniture stores recently. I would love to replace my worn-out fabric recliner with a leather chair. Then all I would need is a roaring fire! :)
ReplyDeleteWe got both leather club chairs at Wolf Furniture in Lancaster Pa. They are Smith Brother's brand. Hope this helps.
DeleteUnfortunately, our home does not not have a fireplace, and my cozy recliner corner is not nearly as chic as yours. Still, there's nothing better than cuddling up with a good bowl of soup and a blankie on a cold day. Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and perfectly cozy spot, Yvonne. I can just picture you all snuggled up there next to the fire. Wish I could join you! And duh! - never thought of using a pillow sham sized pillow on the couch. Love that idea! I had fun partying with you at the Cozy Tour this week! BTW - hope you're continuing to heal up nicely from your knee surgery. xo's
ReplyDeleteWould I love to sit in that spot right now with my coffee!!!! Love the whole thing, especially the pillows. I'm on such a love-blue kick. Just read in the comment above you had knee surgery -- hope all is ok (new to your blog). I have disaster knees and keep putting off a replacement, trying to get a few more years. Be well.
ReplyDeleteI love your cozy spot, Yvonne and I'm ooing over that lamp.
ReplyDeleteVery cozy and comfy looking spot, Yvonne! I know I feel instantly cozy when I put our gas fireplace on in the Winter. That and candles. Your soup looks delicious and with cold temps here again I think I will be having some myself for lunch today!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about your cozy corner Yvonne!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd leave that spot all day! That's pretty much my idea of heaven on earth! A bowl of soup, a fire, homemade cookies, magazines and a nap!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, cozy retreat you've created for yourself. I hope you are enjoying it as you continue to recuperate from your surgery. Relax and enjoy these long, cold winter days.
Oh this is the perfect spot for a cold winter day. Love it all. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteOh my, your comfy cozy spot is perfect!!! What a beautiful place to hibernate on a cold day.

ReplyDelete-Shelley
Cozy and beautiful, Yvonne!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! I love your cozy spot- it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteYou are featuring one of my favorite spots in your home…a place that would make anyone feel so warm, cozy and at home…Now I hope you are spending lots of time in that gorgeous chair taking care of those knees!…I have to say that I love how you are placing more blues into the room…love the pillow and I must have that side table!!!…Definition of "cozy" in the Websters: StoneGable!
ReplyDeleteLove the occasional splash of blue. You do everything so well!
ReplyDeleteGOD bless this home and you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDrop a few pennies in that vase of tulips and they will stand up tall. You can use the same pennies with about 2 vases then they stop working. Thanks for sharing and for the recipe. alderson@udel.edu
Thanks so much for the great tip. Gonna try it the next time I get a bunch of tulips!
DeleteHi Yvonne! I love your blog and follow your posts faithfully. Just love this warm and cozy spot you've created, especially the blues and whites. I was intrigued by your lamp...is this something you purchased or did you create it? Keep up the wonderful work...I'll be anxiously waiting for the next post:)
ReplyDeleteSheila from west Michigan
Hi Shelia, I got this lamp about a year ago at the local pottery barn outlet. I've looked for another, but have not seen one since.
DeleteI absolutely LOVE the use of blue in your family room!! The shade of blue is just perfect! :-)
ReplyDeleteCozy and Warm. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLovely. I could curl up there for hours! Is that a new lamp? Suzi
ReplyDeleteAll the elements are in place for a cozy spot on a cold winter day here in Lancaster! Blue is not normally a color I gravitate to, but you and Ann from On Sutton Place are making me like blue more and more!
ReplyDeleteEverything is just lovely today at Stone Gable...as per usual :)
ReplyDeleteWhere can I find a post on your most recent mantel decor? I thought I saw one but can't seem to locate it.
Thanks!
Kristine, I have not done a post on this current mantel. Mantel's are difficult for me and I feel a little shy in sharing them. I have had the same things on the mantel for quite a long time. Here's the post I did last June: http://www.stonegableblog.com/2013/06/shutters-on-mantle.html
DeleteI ALWAYS enjoy your blog! I also appreciate your positive attitude, tasteful decor, and desire to share your faith.
ReplyDeleteWhat I am tired of is reader comments about your spelling. The point of your blog is not your spelling, and you have graciously apologized for it numerous times. I don't think readers are confused about the blog content due to misspellings here and there. Actually I find it unkind of people to publicly comment on your spelling. I have an MA in English and taught on the college level for thirty-four years. Yes, spelling is important, but I think readers should give it
......but I think readers should give it a rest. ( The end of the sentence in the previous post did not appear on the blog.)
ReplyDeleteI love your cozy reading spot, also! I love the throw, and was wondering where you found it.
ReplyDeleteThe quilted throw on the back of the club chair came from our local Pottery Barn Outlet. The fluffy white throw came from HomeGoods... all on sale!
DeleteI, too, want to know more about the blue stripey lamp, please!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! This makes me want to stay home all day and forget about my huge list of to dos...you certainly know how to make a home both cozy AND beautiful!
DeleteYvonne,
ReplyDeleteI just love your blog! It's the first one I open every morning.....You inspired me today but unfortunately...my cozy corner did not work out as well as yours!
How do you do it? please tell me! where in the world do you keep your fabulous collections? ..."Nell Hill" has nothing on you!
Keep inspiring.....
Have a wonderful day......
Lois
Lovely...just lovely. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteAh, nice! Nothing like a roaring fire and a comfy spot! Yum, the soup looks amazing! I just may have to try it!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Cecilia

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the visit and your gracious comments. You asked about my turtle shell. I actually found it on line on Ebay several years ago. I love it. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteYour room looks great. We are in the process of moving into a house with a fire place and we have already been enjoying it. So warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteOh, Yvonne. Your spot looks so inviting! My spot at home is very similar to yours...minus the homemade chicken noodle soup. I'll have to change that.
ReplyDeleteI love those numbered baskets on your shelves!! And your the second blogger this week who had fresh tulips. They are my favorite...I'm inspired to make a trip to the grocery store for my very own tulips now.
blessings and love to you!
Oh so cozy Yvonne! If only my soup for lunch yesterday was presented on a beautiful tray, fireside :)
ReplyDeleteYvonne, I love your "cozy". What a wonderful retreat for those winter days. A great leather chair and ottoman. The pillows and throw in front of the fireplace and the pop of blue could grace the cover of any of your magazines! The chicken looks yummy........
ReplyDeleteThis is what I see in my mind when I think of cozy. Beautifully done. The tulips were my favorite part. :) Did you get my email? I think I sent it last week. Just wondering. Have a lovely weekend and stay cozy. ~Ann
ReplyDeleteDo you have room for me too? I will even bring my own soup. I know you've been having a rough go of it these past few weeks but I hope you see the end of your recovery in sight. I would love to spend the day next to you chatting away about our homes and our family and crafting and decorating an anything we could think of. I think our tongues would tire before we did. LOL I love your cozy spot. Its perfect! xxoo, barb
