The late fall day was absolutely magical! Blue skies, a slight breeze coaxing the last autumn stained leaves from the trees so they could dance across the cut fields of corn...
What a beautiful day to celebrate Thanksgiving... al fresco!

Our side yard spills into the adjoining field that was filled with tall rustling corn stalks all summer. But once cut, opened up to the bucolic vista that we hadn't seen since late spring! Oh how I love this view!
It was the perfect spot to set a Thanksgiving table... under the almost bare red maples looking over the neighboring fields!
The table was set very casually, even using a drop cloth for a tablecloth!
No placemats, no chargers, just the basics... mostly in white!
The late afternoon sun casts long blue shadows over the casual table!
What would a Thanksgiving table be without a nod to a turkey! I purchased these Pottery Barn plates last year and have been waiting to use them!
Natural linen napkins are sandwiched between the two plates!
One of my favorite holiday traditions is to have a big bowl of nuts in their shells around and waiting to be cracked and eaten. I remember this from when I was a little girl.
I tweaked this family tradition just a tad and put a small white bowl of nuts at each place.
Everyone gets their own nut cracker too!
No flowers or frills on this table... a mix of white pottery, pumpkins and candles... in no particular order run down the center of the table!
I love the stem on this funny little pumpkin!
The white table lets the view shine!
Chairs, rockers and a bench become seating for this casual Thanksgiving table.
It doesn't take much thought to find things to be thankful for outdoors this perfectly beautiful day!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous, Yvonne! I have those turkey plates and they look great with Mikasa French Countryside, too. I am going to acquire the Italian Countryside one of these days. I saw some at HG the other day, but resisted. Now I wish I had picked up the dinner plates at least! Maybe next time.

Nuts were always a holiday treat at our Christmas table. I'm pinning and pining to be at your Thanksgiving table!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! We use drop cloths for everything here--curtains, dog bed covers, table cloths, pillow and duvet covers--so versatile--just a little dye or stencils and voila! :)

DeleteWhat fun! Because we live in NW Wisconsin, we are more likely to have snow at Thanksgiving. But for years we celebrated Thanksgiving mid October, just so we could be outdoors for the event - complete with bonfire. Your cropped field would be a great place for a bonfire. :-)

ReplyDeleteLove the last photo. My maternal grandmother always had a large bowl of assorted nuts and a handful of nut crackers on her table when it was time to display and serve desserts. I"ll add the nuts to our dessert table this Thanksgiving. I'm also placing the napkin between two plates as your lovely table showed.

Around this time of year my mother also used to put a bowl of nuts out for everyone to enjoy and they stayed out through Christmas. Funny - I thought she was the only who did that. lol

My sister and I used to make trips to the outlets in Lancaster quite often when we lived in Baltimore and it was always a favorite way to spend a Saturday. Your photos remind me of our drive through the back roads of Amish/Menonite country.

ReplyDeleteNice tablescape however, where in the world do you put all the serving dishes for a Thanksgiving dinner?? Remember, LESS IS MORE. It's all about BALANCE. At times people get too carried away with decorating and forget making things functional. One key word to ALWAYS remember BALANCE.

Love the white. You have such a wonderful variety of pieces for this tablescape. The pilgrims would be proud of this lovely outdoor setting. I have a large variety of serving pieces in the harvest cream ware patterns. I love them for the holidays. I know you will get a lot of use out of the pieces you used in this tablescape.

ReplyDeleteStunning! I have been loving white for about a year now, and your table makes me love it even more. The setting is spectacular. You and Anita at Cedar Hill Farmhouse have the most beautiful outdoor areas for gatherings.
Uncanny! I have been working on a post about nutcrackers and nuts because I, too, remember that from my childhood. I have my mother's nut crackers. Most of the time now I use them to open resistant caps on drinks and bottles, but they bring back such good childhood memories of the holidays with my extended family.
