One of my favorite snacks to have on hand when StoneGable is full of family or company is homemade
Chex Mix.
It's great munchy food... and has an even more intense flavor when it is the kicked up version!!!
It differs slightly from the original recipe but it sure makes a difference!
STONEGABLE KICKED UP CHECKS MIX
3 cups wheat chex cereal
3 cups rice chex cereal
3 cups corn cereal
2 cup cocktail peanuts
1 cup thin pretzel sticks
1 cup garlic flavored bagel chips
1 cup sesame seed sticks
Mix above ingredients in a large bowl.
10 TBS unsalted butter
4 TBS Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp seasoning salt
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
a dash or two of hot sauce
a dash or two of hot sauce
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Put in a microwave proof bowl and heat until the butter is melted. Stir to incorporate.
Drizzle on the chex mixture and stir gently to distribute.
Put the chex mix onto 2 large rimmed baking sheets. Cook for 1 hours, stirring every 15 minutes and rotate the baking sheets.
sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had this in years! Love the added hot sauce. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds absolutely perfect for our trip to the race in Charlotte this weekend! Thanks for sharing ... I'm headed to the grocery store now! =)
ReplyDeleteI'm dangerous around this stuff. Can't seem to stop eating...

Looks yummy, Yvonne. I picked up a big jar identical to yours at the thrift store this week! So I am all set! Have a wonderful celebration weekend!
ReplyDeleteAt our house we call it "party mix" and it is a favorite of all of us. It is dangerous for me, so I don't leave it on the counter! I use Cheerios in mine and mixed nuts without peanuts (I add macadamias too). It is a must for us before road trips, during the holidays and any time I want to make my husband really happy!
ReplyDelete10 TBS. of butter!!??/ No wonder it is so darn good!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you soon. Got their gifts today:)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try this. I make your granola on a regular basis for my parents, but with coconut, and they love it. So we think of you often. Wishing you a lovely weekend, Yvonne~
ReplyDeleteWe love chex mix around here, I have been making it for my kids since they were small and now I'm making it for my grandchildren. I make two versions, adult and kid friendly and there is currently 2 jars full on the island for Mem Day weekend. Never thought of adding sesame sticks, yum, I love those! A few years ago I tried using olive oil instead of butter and it works great, and I like to think it's a little healthier~I know my adult kids would like the added heat so I will try a little hot sauce next time, thanks!

Thanks for the recipe Yvonne....I would much rather make our snacks this way than "opening up a bag"!!...Love that you added a "kick" to it!!...
ReplyDeleteWe keep this in the pantry too! My version, which includes the tabasco, also uses mixed nuts. For pretzels, we like to add Honey Mustard pretzel pieces to the adult version. It's a nice change and adds one more element of crunch!
ReplyDeleteYvonne, I can't wait to try this recipe ... I even bought the same jar to serve it in ... but I am having trouble finding sesame sticks ... do you know where I can purchase them? :) Thanks so much!
