I have been on a journey... a very L-O-N-G journey!
I have been on the search for the perfect sofa. It has taken me to every furniture store and specialty shop within a 150 mile radius.
I have looked at dozens of catalogs and design books!
And, NOTHING! I could not find THE ONE! Close... but not exactly what I wanted!
I get an idea of exactly what I want and cannot get it out of my mind! But it is more than an idea... it is a FEELING! It has to feel just right! NO compromising...
My ideal sofa is white. And because it is white it must be slipcovered. And because it must be slipcovered it had to fit tight as a drum (no wrinkled, slouchy fabric).
My ideal sofa has a deep seat and big detachable pillows that will hold their shape. It cannot swallow me up when I sit down... it should be soft and firm all at the same time, which means foam core/ down wrapped!
I've been looking for sofa perfection for almost six months!
Then one day I saw a glimmer of sofa perfection when I opened my new Pottery Barn catalog. I never thought of buying a sofa from Pottery Barn! Do people really DO that?

So, off I went to Annapolis, to the Pottery Barn! They had lots of sofas. I felt a little bit like Goldilocks... "no, too small"... "too soft"... " too fill-in-the-blanks"..." too white"! Huh, wait... too white? Seeing a white (real brilliant white) sofa made me instantly decide that I did NOT want a white sofa, after all. I had lost that lovin' feeling for white sofas!
Soft off-white, natural or light flax suited me better~ I kept gravitating towards those colors! And because it was not dazzling white it did not need slipcovered after all!
EUREKA! Goldilocks sofa hunting days were over! I found one that was "just right"!

The PB COMFORT sofa is the ONE!
It is soft and firm (foam core down wrapped), has back cushions that hold up, has a very deep seat, comes in a beautiful light colored flax fabrics, has a sturdy build... and is a very good price! Actually, a shockingly good price!
The PB people could not be nicer or more helpful! And I am a demanding customer! They worked with me and answered all of my questions and went far above and beyond ... we had fabric swatches strune across half of the store... or at least it seemed like it!
I even had a nice long chat with PB design services... they are very helpful!
Thanks, PB people!!!
I wish I could show you the fabric choice for my perfect living room sofa. But you will just have to wait 10 weeks with me until it shows up in person... here at StoneGable!
I have the PB Basic loveseat and love it. It has held up so well. Good choice! I look forward to seeing the photos of your sofa in place.

Can't wait to see the fabric you chose. I know you like my cream sofa but the fabric you chose will be YOU! I know it. PB....HURYY!!!!!! It was wonderful talking and catching up. Can't wait to see you! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteYvonne,

Fondly,

One of my girlfriends ordered a sofa & a loveseat from them. I went with her to ALL the places, and we decided on these two. PB RULES !!
ReplyDeleteYay, always nice when perfection is acquired!!!
ReplyDeleteJust got the PB comfort Grand! Going to do a review soon.
ReplyDeleteI've been on a similar quest, but I don't want loose back cushions (so tired of messing around with them). Can't wait to see your new sofa when it arrives!
ReplyDeleteHi Yvonne...I love Slipcovered furniture! I have off white but mine is from IKEA! I love it. I got the EKTORP 3 cushion sofa and 2 chairs about 2 yrs ago. It has been the best furniture purchase that I have made of recent years. What I like best is the ability to remove, launder and replace. No dry cleaning,Machine Washable. Made of heavy cotton twill. LOVE my slipcovered furniture! Can't wait to see yours.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess your patience and searching paid off. Can't wait to see your new sofa.
ReplyDeleteI'm searching too for THE right sofa, I can't wait to see yours!
ReplyDeleteOh I am so thrilled for you. Finding the right sofa is definitely a challenge. I know, I have done that too many times. Can't wait to see your new one. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI visit the PB sofas when I have my MINI repaired/serviced and they are nice. We have an outlet close enough and one day I may take one home from the outlet just as is. I am glad your search is over. I can't wait to see what fabric you picked and it in place at Stone Gable.
ReplyDeleteSo thrilled you find "the one." We hunted and hunted trying to do the same. We finally bought a white sofa from Pottery Barn last year for our Florida condo. The designer in the store was very helpful and we've been very pleased. And we LOVE their pillows.
ReplyDeleteSam
It sounds like a beautiful sofa and I like the off white idea too. The down fill will be really comfortable. We don't have Pottery Barn here. :( Pamela
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous Yvonne I'm sure you'll love it. My son and DIL bought a PB sofa and it's lasted many years with lots od washings of the covers.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter bought one so similar..and filled with 'down' also. Her only complaint is that the fabric 'pills'. But very comfy and love the color you selected. Thats beautiful and you'll never get tired of it.
ReplyDeleteI ordered my PB classic white slipcovered sofa in the sun room years ago. Still sits like new. Very comfy. I have washed and dried the slip many times. I hope your order comes when it is supposed to. Mine got lost and had to be reordered after three months of waiting and it took another month. I am sure yours will not get lost.
ReplyDeletePottery Barn Couch is my dream couch!! I wanted the down filled one too, but settled for someone sewing me a custom slipcover....someday my pottery barn dream will come true. Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't perfect success make it all worthwhile? I know you must be so excited. And, I will be excited to see it in your home.
ReplyDeleteI am the same way. I know what I want, and then I have to find it. I finally had the sofa in our living room custom made.
Oh my goodness girl, you are women after my own heart! I do the same thing and will go to the ends of the earth to bring an idea to fruition! I love this couch and yep people sure do buy from PB...hello...you're looking at one of those peeps right here! I have a PB sectional sofa (and lots of other PB junk, err, stuff:O) in my family room so 'tis true people do really by from there albeit spendy but perfect always!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear you found the perfect sofa, Yvonne! It is certainly a challenge. We all just want to make our homes a happy, comfortable, yet beautiful haven, don't we? I can't wait to see the final product.
ReplyDeleteOh that is so exciting. Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteYvonne....a great, great, choice...Pottery Barn is one of my all time favorite places to be....My hubby said that he knows he is in real trouble when the sales clerks in my local store know me by my first name!....I also love knowing that most of their upholstered furniture is made in the USA...:)
