ON THE MENU MONDAY WEEK OF APRIL 30, 2012

How do you mark time? We all have our own internal system of marking the passing of a year.
I mark time by Holidays (birthdays count as holidays)! It must be the first grade teacher in me. Easter has passed and now I am counting down to Mother's Day and Memorial Day!

I have not yet planned out my Mother's Day celebration. My dear Mother lives in San Antonio and in Lancaster County. She will be home (WHERE SHE BELONGS!) for Mother's Day. I am hoping my children will be as well...

I am not much for going out to eat on a special day, like Mother's Day. Too crowded. Prix fixe menus and higher prices. Push then in and shove them out. Not my idea of dining! Okay, I think you get the picture... little pet peeve here!

Maybe this year we can all go on a picnic, if the weather cooperates.  Maybe a game of croquet, a game of bocchi and some great music.  Sound like fun. doesn't it. I better start planning so...

Here's what's ON THE MENU...

home and hubby said he will prepare all the food for everyone. He plans
on making scrambled eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, bacon, french toast, mimosas, bloody mary"s. We will have bagels, coffee, tea, and some cereal for those that don't want eggs or french toast.

  5. I wish I was as organized as you are in organizing a weekly menu. I plan a day or two ahead, but still manage to make something homemade, at least. Mother's Day is bittersweet as mine is now gone. I'm with you on restaurants. I'd much rather have a BBQ at home, with my husband and son. Gifts aren't important to me, just to rejoice that I am a mother is a blessing in itself.

  6. Tracy just asked me recently what it is I make that has the dumplings on top??!! I do my beef stew the same way so I will make it for her this week. Tonight I made boneless country style ribs in the slow cooker and everyone LOOOOVED them. We got the POD 2/3 full today!!!! XO,Pinky

  7. That Herbed Biscuit Topped Beef Stew sounds wonderful. I've never made anything with a biscuit topping in the crockpot, so I'm curious about this one.

  9. I am constantly amazed how organized your are Yvonne with your menu planning. We make it a habit never to eat out on big holidays either. You are right - they do try to turn the tables quickly and the food & service is never up to par.

I've brought an arugula salad with a truffle oil and sherry vinaigrette to the party today. Thank you for hosting On the Menu. Have a great week.

  11. I am so happy that you have some slow cooker meals listed this week....I am always looking for great slow cooker recipes...I tend to have lots of house guests and slow cooker meals for their first day of arrival when I am so busy getting the house prepared is a great time saver for me!....So glad your mom will be "home" for Mother's Day....mine is in Florida...and I am with ya on the restaurant thing...here in Chapel Hill, it is graduation day for the universities (UNC)...always on Mother's Day...what is with that??
Anyway, needless to say the restaurants are always packed that day and the entire weekend for that matter.....

    Have a wonderful week!

  15. I agree on Mother's Day! Can t stand the crowds. I used to host it here, but the number kept growing! Last year the extended group , 30, did go to a lovely place on the water for a buffet. It was good, but there is no place like home!
I know sooner or later you will be doing a baby shower, so stop by and see the one I helped with last Saturday!
