I love the look of neutral colors accented by dark wood! The ballance of light and dark, soft and hard, bright and shaddow brings interest and eye appeal. Dark pieces mixed among neutral or whites brings depth and weight. This is my very favorite way to display white.
This table was posted last year, but I thougt I would bring it out again, revamp it and repost it.
The table is simply set. There are so many beautiful elements that can stand alone that wanted them all to shine.
An ivory cotton lace tablecloth was bought years ago at a large outdoor antique market. This beauty was spread over the bare mahogany table. It was love at first sight. So beautiful and delicate. I like that there are many intricate pattens that blend together- a work of art.
Each place was set with a combination of white and brown dishes. I got a little carried away with the layering, but it was so fun! A white tulip greets each guest and mirrors the arrangement.
Brown ribbed glasses continue the natural theme. I used a stem glass, because I have no place mat or table pads to protect the wood.
Crisp napkins with thick cotton lace edges are folded next to the plate. Brown pearl handled flatware flatters the brown transferware plates. (HomeGoods)
The white footed ironstone bowl has a pretty fluted edge. Filled with potted tulips and willow twigs this bowl is transformed into a centerpiece. White moss covers the soil and a little stick bird's nest brings a natural brown element to the centerpiece.
Tall glass and tortoise shell inspired candlesticks topped with a creamy white candle give added height to the table... And a little drama too!
Another recent purchase was this pretty white pitcher. I love it's graceful and curvy lines. It reminds me of something a poem would be written about.
The salt and pepper shaker are Mikasa Italian Countryside and match the dinner plates and the sugar bowl and creamer.
It was a wonderful evening with people we love.
I am participating in Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps On The Porch.

Hi Yvonne! I had to laugh about dancing in the aisles at HG! I was looking for those plates for the longest time--silly me, I only bought 4 the first time I saw them. My sister and I were on the hunt, and when we found them we cheered! Love your blog and your tables! Linda greenlinda@me.com

Oh my goodness, what can I say..PERFECT! That is my absolute favorite color combo. In fact 15 years ago when I planned my wedding those were my colors. Back then everyone was doing lavendar & peach. They thought I was nuts, BROWN? I had to have the bridesmaid dresses made, they just didn't have them in the stores. Blah, blah blah. did't mean to get so carried away, but your post just got me excited. Those chargers are from Home Goods? They are wonderful, I must go hunting. And the footed bowl with the tulips, devine. You are a talented girl, you could serve frozen pizza on that table & would taste like Prime Rib! Lisa
ReplyDeleteYou really know how to set a table! It is beautiful. It looks like it took so much time to come up with just the right pieces. Just lovely:)

Gorgeous table. I Love the white and brown together and your centerpiece is perfect! Love the texture of the tablecloth and all the various layered plates. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYvonne,
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I have come to "study" your tablescapes! As usual this tablescape is a true tutorial as to pulling it all together perfectly...geometric shapes repeated in linens, ribbing in glassware repeated in the cups, flatware caps, a bit of lazy daisy embroidery in tablecloth flows with the leaves on the dishes, unlined tablecloth shows the woodtones of the table shared by the brown glass....a true lesson in how to tie it all together beautifully! This is one to file away for future reference. Thanks for sharing your talents!
Breathtaking.......I am totaly in love with the candleholders. Everything is just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your table! This is probably my favorite table ever! You should be so proud of your creativity. I am so inspired and will definitely file this one away for future reference. Once, again, I LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous linens and I love the tortoise shell look! Perfect for this time of year--neutral with the promise of spring!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I adore your neutrals! The centerpiece is to die for!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit here and I am soooo looking forward to returning again and again. I can't wait to see more of your beautiful tablescaping!
I am off to check out your earlier posts!
Happy Tablescape Thursday!
XOXO
Cathy
This table makes my heart sing....you have brought the woodlands indoors, in a very elegant way. Love everything--including the lace on lace layering!
ReplyDeleteYour table is beautiful, of course it always is. Those candlesticks are gorgeous and just the right touch. Love the layering.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Yvonne! I love the utensils, very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love the brown and white. Of course, white tulips are my favorite (and white lilacs). I'm loving the flatware. I'm really lacking in flatware choices, not that I cared much before tablescaping...but, now I want more. I'm so glad you found your dishes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful weekend:)
Sue
This is just a beautiful tablescape. The first thing I noticed was the gorgeous tablecloth! And the layered dishes are perfect with the flatware and goblets. I LOVE your centerpiece...I have such a thing for reindeer moss!!

Hello Yvonne~ ~~
ReplyDeleteWe were truly blessed this week with only a few inches of snow. Your white table reminds me of this icy lovely winter we are having. So pretty. Is there a Home Goods in Lancaster? I haven't found one locally yet and with all I have heard I'm anxious to shop one. Your plates are lovely.
Oh Yvonne, tired of your berry and leaf white plates? Nonsense. I loved them so much that when I saw them at my HomeGoods, I had to buy them too - but they only had the dinner size. I've yet to use them, but I know they'll have endless possiblities!
ReplyDelete- The Tablescaper
You have worked these colors beautifully ... a gentle ode to the coming of spring. Love the lace napkins too. Thanks for enriching us with the beauty of your life and blog!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty. I love that white pitcher. The white tulip centrepiece is beautiful. I just love coming to your blog, always interesting and pretty!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful tablescape! I really like this one. Love the contrast of white and dark together. The silverware is gorgeous! Now I am going to have to tromp through every stinking HG to find it! Ugh, better get my walking shoes on!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning ~ as usual! The brown and white looks beautiful together.

ReplyDeleteWhite tulips are my favorite, so when I see them on a table I fall in love with it! I love the centerpiece and all of your whites and hints of brown...so clean and pretty. This is a table I could leave set all year long.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dishes Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteI want a set of white dishes. I keep telling my husband and his eyes just kinda glaze over...we already have 4 different plate settings. I don't think he can take it!!
I'm so glad you brought this lovely post out of the archives. As always, I notice the tablecloth and napkins first. They are exquisite. Really wonderful pieces. I have a tablecloth in the same type of lace and use it rather sparingly. Your napkins match perfectly. Lovely, lovely pieces. I also like the dark with the light. Very much so. Great table, enjoyed my visit thoroughly!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful setting! Thank you for reposting it. I love your flatware!

Hi Yvonne...
ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely.
I love the creamy whites and the contrast of the woodtones above and below the tablecloth!
The tablecloth ~ not that is a work of art...a thing of beauty~
The white tulips add so much grace to the table. How honored your guests must feel!

Oh my goodness, you took it out of the park Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteI love this tablescape for the naturalness of it, the texture and the overall calming effect it has.
Happy St. Patricks's Day to you! xo Delores
I see my "old" comment is on here but I have to say again that this is a SPECTACULAR table!!!!! I adore the brown ribbed goblets but the CANDLESTICKS take my breath away! I LOOOOVE anything animal so these are wonderful. If they go missing it wasn't me:):):) Leaving tomorrow, but will have a computer so will keep in touch. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteHi Yvonne! This is the first table of yours that I ever saw when I "found" the world of blogging!!! I had those white dishes with the leaf and beery edge that you found in Home Goods, and I thought, this is a woman after my own heart! And I have been your faithful follower/lurker/not-quite-stalker (hehe) ever since! Such a beautiful table! And I never can find flatware like you find in HGs. Linda
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, Yvonne. The different textures work together to create grace.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I love the napkins.♥
I admire that gorgeous tablecloth!
ReplyDeleteYour tablescapes always take my breath away. This one is no exception. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteI love neutrals too. What a gorgeous tablecloth and I can tell why it would have been love at first sight!
ReplyDeleteIn my humble estimation, you are simply the goddess of the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Perfectly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSimply stunning and elegant!
ReplyDeleteSo much to love! One of my favorite parts is the single tulip placed across the dinner plate. I love your tablecloth and the simple elegance of the muted colors.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, fabulous job Yvonne.
Donna
This whole tablescape is beautiful...but mercy...I am crazy for the flatware and the glasses. Fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteYvonne, I am always so inspired by your posts, and have been awed by your photographic eye - I knew it would not be long before you went "viral", and so I was not surprised to see you featured by Mikasa! This is as always a beautiful post. I love those candle holders and the centerpeice is a work of art. Thanks so much for sharing your talents!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites. I love the cream and brown and the tablecloth, well it's divine. Good thought about the stemmed glasses on bare wood. Love the candleholders.. a great table.
ReplyDeleteTitle - Naturals and Neutral- I thought hohum. I was wrong. As usual, you did a terrific job of balancing light/dark, matte/sheen. I especially love the tablecloth and napkins.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful.
Hey all- Any suggestions as to where i can buy similar dishes. I have been searching but havnt' been successful! any help is appreciated!!! obviously everything is gorgeous "mimicking is the best form of flattery"
