NEW FIND~ OLD STOOL

I am a casual frequenter of antique haunts. I enjoy perusing dusty isles filled with chippy years-gone-by merchandise... and going through stacks of crisply starched linens... and the smell of old books!

I most often leave enjoying my visit... empty handed!

But, once in awhile I find something that I know belongs to me... that feels like it is already a part of my story. Those are the things I take home...

That is exactly how I feel about this rather tall little stool.  I knew it's home was StoneGable!   I can't quite tell you why or what it is about it... I just knew!

It has been repainted... I recognize the color and the feel of the wax finish rubbed on it.

I was going to strip it and repaint it... but the color has grown on me!

I think it should stay this soft aqua blue.  It just needs a little extra rubbing with super fine sandpaper to coax a soft glow from the wax.

It has a sturdy seat with a handsome design...

It will certainly earn it's keep. It is a useful piece... I think it is rather beautiful in a simple way! I like simple beauty...

I was thinking of stacking small quilts on top of it or using it as a makeshift nightstand.  It would stand in very well for a table between two porch rockers, too!

All I do know right now is that this new find... this old stool... has finally come home!!!

  3. That is a gorgeous looking little stool that will serve you well in a variety of uses around Stonegable. I understand the feeling of knowing when something is just meant to go home with me. I get that feeling occasionally when browsing my favorite antique shop. My last "got to go home with you" item was a complete set of beautiful floral dishes. Have a great weekend, Yvonne!

  13. Yvonne, this is a beauty. I like to find simple pieces that have multiple uses. It's fun to look at items that have come home with me through the years. Some didn't have a specific spot to ease into, but always found a place. It's rewarding to take note of these odds and ends that became part of our story. Enjoy this old stool. ;-)

Lucky find! If you are anything like me you'll use it in several different places before you're done. Have fun with it!

  27. I love that stool.

Yesterday I went back with our large vehicle to buy an amazing metal antique headboard from a place I frequent.....only to find the lady in front of me buying it. WHY didn't I put it on hold? And to top it off they had marked it down from the night before.

Ugh. Oh well, things happen for a reason and I was happy for her, and left with two rather large fabulous rusty metal urns for outdoors..............and tried not to pout too much, haha.

Anyway, glad for you - nice piece!

  28. I love the stool and the color! Sounds like it must be chalk paint and wax. Just use an old t-shirt to buff it rather than sandpaper which would distress it. You can always paint over it with chalk paint, so no need to strip. A wash would also be pretty over that blue if you tired of the color. Have fun finding its place in your pretty space
